Is China really a threat to the United States Hegemony?

Not if you have lasers (for general use) and more specifically UV pulse lasers (to get rid of those pesky hypersonic missiles or reentry vehicles). Since the US has been hitting both with a lot of money despite the sequester and have been preparing for multi-megawatt lasers for a while now...

... it's going to be interesting to be a missile or nuclear warhead, to say the least. Stealth wouldn't be far behind so aircraft would soon follow unless we suddenly develop literal Battletech armor.
Except we are NOWHERE near close to having any of that ready for war, MANY Years left

Yet they're getting prepped to deploy within the next half-decade, with the ability to be LIDAR emitters mind you.
They aren't going to be the game changers you think at this point in time. They are not at the level to make Nukes obsolete

You would be surprised, given how fast they've been moving. It was once upon a time that megawatt grade lasers would be considered outright fiction...

We will not be like battletech for a good long while

I would. Mechs are also useless and horrible designs.
While I would agree with you on the Battlemechs being useless and horrible (if you want mecha, you're more likely to see Gears from Heavy Gear), I wouldn't be surprised that armor takes multiple pages out of Battletech at the minimum.

I again would. Because look at how modern combat is and will be fought

Right now, these energy ABM weapons don't exist. And unlike in movies, is possible to armor the warheads, and is not easy to maintain the laser focused in said warhead during the necessary time - is not a slow-moving object after all.
Yes, in the future is probable that said energy-based weapons can defeat ICBMs / SLBMs but is the old battle between bullet and shield - both advance technologically.

Not enough to stop someone. nK had USSR not fallen would be a power house.
NK has no potential to be anything but Dear Leader's toybox. An army with a country is nothing but a fright mask. It takes industrial power to be a real power and we were betrayed by GHWB and company into financing the rise of China so that a tiny group of oligarchs could lay us off and make bank at our expense. We are to have a service economy and be their servants.

Eh, there is a lot more to what goes on, plus santions and everything would not have stopped China from rising, especially since they were growing in power before the USSR fell, and when thy did, they took that power vacuum that was left in Asia and used it to their advantage by making themselves a big place for cheap labor.

Nothing the US could have done would have stopped it.

Albeit we could have slowed their growth down a bit.

If we were a hegemony we could have banned the transfer of our technology and kept them from infesting our universities, but we are manifestly not a hegemony. We're not even a real country by many standards, as laws are enforced selectively and there is no punishment meted out for betrayal of the nation.

I mean China has been stealing tech since the ancient times.

They get their hands on things even without it being leaked.

And treason is dealt with in a very larger part, but we are still a country of Innocent until proven guilty.

Tell it to General Flynn.
