Sci-Fi Tech Good Times with Future Weapons (the scifi Gun thread)

Hmm, no mention of the starter pistol in Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold?

It was one of the first "unlimited ammo" weapons in an FPS but took several seconds to recharge between shots, and most enemies took multiple shots. It had the advantage of being silent but since your enemies' weapons weren't, as soon as anybody shot back at you the stealth advantage was lost, so not really much of an advantage after the first ten seconds or so of gameplay.

Not including the blaster pistol from Republic Commando?

If you ran out for your blaster or alternate, it was often better to run up to your enemies and start meleeing them instead of pulling that out.

Technically a Future Weapon.

Someone made a real life version of the NCR Service Rifle from Fallout: New Vegas.

Remember Terran Trade Authority? This is one of the guns that show up. ;)

Avatar has some good designs.

Ah, Interstellar Marines. Damn good-looking conventional-config rifle.

Still one of my favorite interpretations of an alien counterpart to conventional weaponry; functionally intuitive, but visually distinct.
That they would abandon such a unique design is tragic.

After getting her to Level Five during these 30 Days of Free Character Play on Heroes of the Storm, I think I found my favorite character in that MOBA so far. And in all honesty, it should've been expected.

Siege Tanks were great in Starcraft and so it makes sense they are also superior in this space as well. Plus... strong female character in a strong well endowed Siege Tank and all of that as well.

InRangeTV did a wonderful dive and demo of the newly developed M41A Pulse Rifle and M56 SmartGun which will be entering widespread Colonial Marine Service soon. Both weapons look and seem to perform pretty amazingly. Clear step up from previous weapons.

And the video even has them both demonstrating live fire on targets. The 'artificial person' RB9K knows his stuff. It also covers the M314 Motion Tracker as well.

In response to the Bullpup Discussion going on in the Real Guns Thread I've been pondering what bullpup firearm I truly think is glorious and there is one that immediately comes to mind.

The WINCHESTER CITY-KILLER 12 GAUGE COMBAT SHOTGUN!

Capable of single shot or burst fire, the four round burst could reliably shred all manners of light to medium armored man and beast to death and if they were standing in a relatively tight cone, you could be rewarded with multiple corpses with their heads ripped off at the sternum flopping over lifelessly before your Vault Dweller/Chosen One.

Only took a century to perfect a near perfect bullpup combat weapon.

My first reaction when watching the series with my dad when I was much younger was "Dad, why are they pointing dustbusters, are they gonna vacuum them up or something...?"

I was looking through to find phasers in here somewhere.

In retrospect, the whole early TNG vibe makes sense in-universe.

People seem to largely forget about the Khitomer Accords. Starfleet was supposed to have demilitarized. I think that the Federation, Klingons and Romulans all went about it in their own way... more so trying to get around it... I think the Federation took it closer to heart than the others, but went more of a "PR" route to it.

"Oh those? They are guns. They are clearly just tools, we use for exploration."
"What, that ship isn't a "warship"! It's an "Explorer."
"Look, we don't wear jackets with medals and stuff anymore, we're in pajama jumpsuits now!"

I always loved the Helghast assault rifle from Killzone 1.

Great ammo capacity, pretty accurate, and had an underbarrel shotgun for those who got too close.

I’m a massive fan of the Kewu R'shi'k-pattern plasma rifle.

Otherwise known as the ‘Brute Plasma Rifle’.

I was exceptionally disappointed that they didn’t show up in Halo 3 (though you can put them into multiplayer in forge in the Master Chief collection) and infuriated that they aren’t in Halo Infinite.

Hmm - I wasn't expecting a fashion contest. Okay, my entry will be Emperor Femur from War Planets/Shadow Raiders. He may be self-centered and cowardly but he still gets good use from his shoulder cannon ... mostly because the cannon AI is braver than its wearer. 😀

Ah finally, another cultured fan of War Planets.

Though there are much better examples of fine weaponry from that series.

The Spidertanks of Planet Ice.

The Sonic Cannons of Planet Rock.

Even those cool fighters you only see for like a minute in the first episde of the TV series from Planet Tek which have the variable geometry.

Bone Soldiers were cool too. According to the lore bits on the website they had smart suits which complimented the poor intelligence and dutiful loyalty the solders of Planet Bone apparently had.

oh man, now there’s a series I haven’t thought about in a while. Didn’t know there were still fans of the show around.

Those don't exist for me.
They actually make sense, as you need to send a lot of rounds rapidly down-range to get rid of shields and then use the time between the collapse of the shield and its reset to kill an enemy. Whenever we got a weapon using the old radiator system in later games, they had a moderate to steep RoF penalty.

The thing is, they're not supposed to be used like how Shepard and his team use them. From what people can dig up, the average soldier isn't going to use the thermal clip exchange function that extensively and allow the clip to cool. Shepard and his team are just that nuts (either going into situations where you use thermal clips like crazy or want more RoF NOW far more often than not).

That may be a weapon designer's take, but, please, any soldier worth his salt is gonna go as high ROF as he can because it kills the guy trying to kill him faster.

Design intent or not, that's what soldiers are gonna do.

It should be noted that even soldiers wouldn't be so wreckless with the system as Shepard and his team were.
