THIS IS NOT A GUN CONTROL THREAD!

This is a thread for discussion about GUNS! Blasters! Phasers! Slug Throwers! HOT PLASMA AND HYPERSONIC SPIKES!

What you "own," what you want, what you hate, why your opinion is best and should be listened to!

TRY and keep it to fictional guns, M'kay? Leave that real world nonsense to that other thread.

Pictures. We want gun porn.

Videos? Sure! Some people like to watch, you know...

And don't be fake. You don't own a superlaser. You never will own a superlaser. You don't even know a guy who owns a superlaser. You don't go into the other thread cyberfapping how you own a battleship or a Minuteman missile, so don't come into this thread trying to impress us with your fake facts about owning a Galaxy Gun for personal defense. Just stop...

And to start us off...

Personally, it seems a bit much. Now I'm not one of those disarmament types who consider every automatic weapon that can dispense 19mm explosive holy justice downrange as some horrifying weapon of war that should never be used by civilians, but to me personally, it is a bit too much. One might say it's an inelegant weapon for a less civilized age. Surely nothing as reliable as having a good blaster by your side... or that of your kid.

Because even a boltpistol seems a bit much for a kid to handle. But then again, I'm not exactly big on guns in general, maybe people with more knowledge on the subject have better recommendations.

Look, I acknowledge that there is a lot of science fiction more interesting, with a better backstory, better worldbuilding, better starships, better science, better metaphysics than Star Wars. Better food, better aliens, more creative, whatever else that you have.

But none of them have the DL-44.

I can't look at the DL-44 and not just see sci-fi Mauser C96. I can't decide if that makes it better or worse.

I personally like the Bryar pistol.

As for the Bolt guns, yes they're portable war crimes, but sometimes you need that. And it's okay to use excessive force on aliens.

One weapon I truly adore is the Force Lance of the High Guard. Now I'm just a nerd when it comes to weapons, I've never handled one after all. But I mean people do often talk about how the Starfleet Federation Hand Phaser is such a versatile weapon, well so is the Force Lance only most of its versatility tends to be centered around killology like a proper energy weapon should be.

The Force Lance looks like a nice baton sized cylinder which, much like the phaser, fires generic energy bolts and the user is so good they can hit targets despite the lack of sights or ergonomics. But this is partly overcome by the fact it not only can fire plasma bolts, but also smart bullets so who needs aiming anyways.

At least until your out of ammunition I suppose.

Anyways... Not only will it compensate for my lack of aiming or responsibility, but it can also be extended into a two meter long fighting pike... which can still shoot. And stab people. And deliver electrical shocks if your not in the killing mood. It can also release tiny attack drones.

And you can program it so when you stick it in the ground, it can fire pulses that intercept enemy mortar and artillery rounds. Oh and fire a zip line if your being adventurous. Or as a flashlight, like your smartphone. One better.

Oh and explode like a plasma grenade if so inclined to be wasteful.

Of course with a weapon so capable, how could I not have already purchased one? Well as you know, a gun is a tool like anything else, and with the Force Lance being an exceptional multitool, of course the Commonwealth would never permit random supposedly free citizens to possess them legally in any quantity. Goodness forbid we get such awesome weapons to defend ourselves with. The High Guard clearly is so stable and powerful we would never have need for their trademark sidearms. :cautious:

That's right, it's not even a main assault weapon. It's a sidearm. But still clearly too much for a civilian to handle. 😢

I think if Force Lances were available on the civilian government, Leslie Fish's song about the world having no government at all would be quite true... Not without the legitimate consent of the governed, that is!

I do appreciate that they at least had the handwaving about auto aiming with the force lance, given its fundamental lack of any reliable ability to aim it. Something I don't think they ever bothered with for the Nex Gen phaser. No one ever explained those stupid square flashlights, either.

That is why I had a second character that was a Master Doc/TKM, and a third that was a grandmaster entertainer...

I spent way too much money/time on SWG back in the day. It was a better time, before the NGE.

It was such an overcomplicated, gimped system, but it also managed to be fun. They somehow managed to make it worse in every way. Kind of impressive when you think about it.

I was a Commando/TKM, myself. So naturally, this beauty was my best friend:

Where is the fuel for this flamethrower kept? I don't know, but what I do know is that using it on someone that you've knocked down with your space kung fu is super deadly. And it produces a near day-ruining amount of wounding.

I had...
A MCH/Master Rifleman
A MDoc/TKM
A Commando/BH
Grand Master Entertainer (oddly enough, apart from my very first character this one took the longest to grind...)
and
A BE/CM *chuckles*

was a part of the RP community on my server, and we had incredible support from the devs. In one case, the servers Alpha Company held a formal parade/review in their player city which had a dev show up, swooping in in a Lambda and playing Vader. We also had an IC wedding in the Theed Palace which saw the palace redecorated and multiple major NPCs attend.

No, I was on Valcyn, although I did stick a toe into Starsider to look at some of the player housing decoration builds there

Yes. A better world would be one with Force Lances for everyone. Carry responsibly.

But since the High Guard keeps their fancy weapons under lock and key, owning one of them privately is like harder then owning a Class V license I'm sure.

What should be done is more support and awareness spread about the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It's amazing how many people are simply unaware that you can join a network of shooting clubs and organizations sponsored by the actual government to spread responsible and effective gun usage and as a bonus, you get the chance to purchase surplus government rifles.

Granted... there aren't any T-21's in the lineup... or even E-11's, probably because scary short barreled blaster carbines are scary. But there are about... oh..... twenty thousand different pattern Lasguns and Lascarbines available. The most common being the M35 M-Pattern Lasgun, but sometimes you can get the M36 patterns the Cadians use, or more often the Ryza or Mars Pattern ones which are nice and I couldn't begin getting into the minutiae of how different they might be. With so much surplus available, it makes you wonder if they're just overproduced, being replaced... or there's an egregiously large number of previous users who no longer have need for their personal weapons anymore.

Also all of these lasgun fans, sometimes when they congregate, they bring their Las Lock Pistols as well. Which is the very definition of awesome.

I saw the real M41A pulse rifle in a display not long ago, and by real I mean the working gun they dolled up for the movie. Work of art.

I wonder if we could use tracers to make it look like it was really firing as a pulse gun when it was actually firing...

Harlock

I should have expected that really
I also appreciate how most SW weapons are 20th century European military arms :p Lewis guns, Brens, Stg 44s, Sterlings of course. Lot of ingenuity gone into making that universe.

Also nice how they do have the right weapon for the right job, smaller SMG style weapons for shipboard troops, full sized rifles for ground troops, squad LMGs, tripod HMGs and so on. The man portable gatling guns the clones used were a bit far fetched, but I guess those guys were stronger than normal guys given the huge rifles they packed.
They do seem like some measure of thought went into their gear, even the white armour was explained as being necessary for protection from ray shields
