Sci-Fi Tech Good Times with Future Weapons (the scifi Gun thread)

Tiamat

I've seen the future...
@Tiamat It's an Imperial Russian Navy "Boarding pistol" supposedly; the two are actually detachable and I suppose the idea was that it would be too much weight to carry a hatchet and a detachable buttstock for your Nagant when you were a sailor, so why not replace the detachable buttstock with a hatchet that was also a detachable buttstock?
That...sounds so very Russian and makes perfect sense, at least from a Russian standpoint. Insert “In Russia....” joke here.
Wonder how many “accidents” may have or did occur just holding that hatchet blade against ones shoulder.

Ahem... this is for SciFi Guns... not your zany real life imitations.

Speaking of which... your boarding firearm reminds me of this fine Undead slaying weapon from the 2002 game Darkwatch.

IIRC correctly it combined all of the delightfulness of a shotgun with the brutally rewarding efficiency of being able to chop and hack apart living dead filth when your close quarters shenanigans got a little too close for comfort.

Watch out for that recoil IRL though. ;)

Discovered a cool new channel today. It's named after the gun shop featured in Resident Evil 2 and 3 and seems to cover the distinctive firearms featured in the Resident Evil game series and along with a deep analysis of the real world origins and details of the gun, covers their appearances and use in the game series as well as touches on other things like custom builds of real or airsoft firearms based off of the RE game weapons.

Though many of the guns in Resident Evil have real world basis (and take place in a contemporary or near present settings in regards to when the game was released) they're often still heavily fictionalized... or at least customized depending on game to game so it seems to be a better fit here then in the other real world gun thread.

Meh, I find the firearms as presented in Fallout 3 and 4 to be atrocious, I run a truckload of mods in my game and swap out all the crappy in-game weapons with modern real-life firearm mods.

Then again, I just play more for the postapocalyptic mayhem and "rebuilding an armed civilization" Twilight 2000 style, never cared too much for the atompunk setting in itself, I'm more of a "future of the 80's" kind of guy. :p

Someone in this thread mentioned the phasers of Star Trek. I remember how they went from something that looked at least vaguely like sidearms in TOS, to Next Generation where they started to look more like this:

Well, anyone remember the Dustbuster from the 80s? Have a look:

My first reaction when watching the series with my dad when I was much younger was "Dad, why are they pointing dustbusters, are they gonna vacuum them up or something...?"

The talk of Sam Fisher and Splinter Cell have reminded me of another Swiss Army Knife of guns.... the SC-20K MAWS (Modular Assault Weapon System).

Based on the already sexy FN-2000, the SC-20K at its core has an integral silencer and a 1.5x magnified scope with a computer assisted targeting reticule that can be used in low-light conditions.

It is highly modular, able to mount a 40mm grenade launcher, a shotgun attachment or be rapidly converted with a sniper attachment. The initial or default 40mm GL attachment however is pretty awesome with a wide variety of specialized rounds including my favorite, the sticky shocker round, as well as gas grenades, EMP ammunition and a spy camera round.

Why use weapons at all ? with teleport technology,i would just sit and teleport dirt into enemies heads.

Because the thread is about Awesome Future Weapons... it's literally called the SciFi Gun Thread. Like our other Gun Thread in the Community forum, only better because it's small arms from Science Fiction.

I guess we've been remiss in not recognizing one of the most notable sidearm in sci-fi history... The illustrious automatic pistol known as the Lawgiver.

A standard sidearm of the law enforcing Judges of the various post apocalyptic megacities. Alongside the numerous security features built into the weapon like a palm reader to prevent it from literally falling into the wrong hands, the Lawgivers main claim to fame is its ability to fire a billion different types of ammunition.

These include but are not limited to: General Purpose/Execution, Armor Piercing, Grenade, Inciendiary, Heat Seeking, Rubber Ricochet, High Explosive and everyone Psy Judges favorite... EXORCISM!

You obviously didn't read the thread then as I mentioned it on page 2.

Is there a reason why it, when they have the technology to equip it with a mircotaser, the anti-theft mechanism is a lethal self destruct rather than just tasing the perp. The former not only destroys what has to be a fairly expensive weapon, it also disarms the judge because their weapons is now a bunch of shrapnel (also, contemporary smart guns are unpopular because people don't like the idea of a gun that might not fire when they pull the trigger. I can't imagine that feature taking off when it might not fire and then explode when you pull the trigger)?

An article that takes aim at my fandom heart...

I was prepared to say that I'd be pretty sure some of the guns they list would actually be ones I could have good times with... but in all honesty, all of the weapons they listed (with the one obvious exception) were pretty crap in my experience.

Though I kinda still have a soft spot for the Doom Pistol...

I actually don't mind the pipe gun in 4, but that's because BLD reworks the combat system so it's much more useful. It's still not great, but it's got a role as a cheap bugswatter so I don't have to waste ammo from my primary.
