As I’ve said before, it probably varies from area to area

Not sure what makes certain colleges attract crazies more than others though or what intensifies the crazy more than the other

It's very simple; in academia, you don't have to produce a product that directly and tangibly affects reality. So any kind of fringe BS can more easily avoid the sort of hard scrutiny that reveals its true nature.

So, I am currently discussing Germany's political system with lefties fawning over it and Merkel.

What are the worst things about German society and government?
Government is coasting on strong economy it had no hand in creating, while kicking the real problems down the hall for the next generations to deal with. System of economic enslavement of EU for the benefit of the Germany and France was cemented by Kohl and Schröder, she only came by to reap the benefits of the gilded age they created.
She has no principles of her own, she all about virtue signaling and postponing important decisions until public will is known (auslassen). Human rights in Germany are theoretical, you can be imprisoned indefinitely, without legal conviction, if the court decides you are dangerous for whatever reason (originally intended for incorrigible psychos but can be stretched), also courts can order indefinite detention in the psychiatric institution for whatever reason, like making claims about bank fraud or sluggish schizophrenia. Also people critical of government policies can be practically unpersoned by claiming they are connected to AfD.
And then there is their holy grail of green energy. Germany has spent massive amounts for this holy grail and now all of the green energy they supposedly produce must be backed by coal power plants, with strip mines devouring forests and villages (All hail Bagger 288!), the shortfall being made up with purchases of electricity in France (nukes) and Poland (coal). And this also needs natural gas power plants to cover all of the fluctuations in the grid, which results in a funny duality in German relations with Russia.

Today's old news concerns a little spy-app created by the german government itself, the corona warning app. The idea was that citizens voluntary downloaded it and used it to avoid infected citizens while having a map of risks. You can imagine how many privacy laws this neat little thing breaks, but since it's voluntary, it's marginally legal.

Turns out, almost no one used that thing, to the dismay of Big Daddy State, with two politicans stating that the app can only effective if about 80% of the population actually use it. Now the state wants to make downloading the app mandatory, for the safety of its citizens of course. Not because it would make collecting date and tracking citizens easier.

EDIT: I'll be honest, this reads like some bad fisher building a dam to force fishes out of the water.

Their current PM is east german and might have been a Stasi informant.
If it is true, she is KGB informant. Some soviet satellites had partially independent secret services/Romania/ , but Stasi was de facto part of KGB.

Germany’s Interior Ministry has demanded a bill drafted by the Justice Ministry that uses only feminine endings be revised over concerns the legislation might apply exclusively to women when brought into force.
Campaigners in the country have been demanding for years that the tradition of legal texts using the masculine versions of words to cover both men and women should be changed. They may finally be appeased with the appearance of a new draft law on insolvency and company restructuring which reverses the practice and uses feminine endings instead.
However, the Interior Ministry demanded a revision of the bill on Monday. Spokesman Steve Alter said the main objection was that “the law potentially would only be valid for women, or for people of female gender, and so would very likely be unconstitutional.”

Yeah, I'm gonna take a sip from the juice of doubt here.

For one, the demostration had around 7.000 members. Secondly, the right of assembly is only infringed upon insofar as a) ordinary social distancing rules are applied to limit the spread of deadly, contagious diseases, and courts and local authorities are allowed to prohibit said assemblies if it's apparent from the get-go that said rules will not be adhered to. For example, if you get 7.000 people protesting against the CoViD19 measures who don't believe in the disease and think it's all fake, those people won't (and haven't in the past) wear masks and keep the distancing rule intact. So, for the common good, if you don't want to risk a superspreader event at a time infection numbers are already spiking, not allowing said protest seems like a pretty sensible idea.

By and large what has been put into law is no different from what has been practiced this past half year via executive orders. Doesn't mean it's not something the politically aware public shouldn't keep a keen eye on. But it's not the end of the Republic. Not any more than it has gone down the drain these past years anway.
