More on-topic. I'm Canadian, RBG doesn't directly affect me. I respect what she did for women in law, and her actions on SCOTUS, at least she generally stood by her convictions from what I know. So I will show her respect for that. RIP. Beyond that, the whole hoopla about replacing her? Yeah, I'll stay away from that.

As you have every right to, the fact is that I respect the woman as an upstanding and uncorrupt judge.

The fact is that here death was going to end in a crisis in this situation no matter what happened, for the Republican's in a era where changing demographic's trends aren't favoring them having a majority on the SC would ensure that the Dems cant just ram legislation without regard for them down their throat and to the Left it likewise means striking down any form of 'progress' they have made.

All I can say is, if nobody was even willing to entertain the idea of compromising, than this country is probably doomed even if we do knock the regressive left out of power; as we'd just be replacing one group of authoritarians with another. Now, I'm not saying I agree that Trump should hold off on nominating a replacement for Ginsburg; I just think it's important that someone on our side makes that argument, and that we at least consider it.

Again, I'm not saying you should compromise with such people; but the moment compromise no longer even occurs to anyone as a possibility, is the moment that authoritarianism has won, regardless of which side does.

I am willing to accept the "bad ending" of the "conservatives if they win and go all the way" compared to the future the left has in store for us at this point, one is recoverable from, the other is not. I think that is something you don't understand. They declared their intentions and have shown their actions the past 4 yrs non stop, it needs to end. I do not want to compromise with them, I have nothing left to give them, what else is left to give them?

You know what makes this place better though? You WON'T get hit for saying that. Many of us are really fucking glad when people come in and break up the echo chamber a bit.

Posting on SB is like walking on eggshells in enemy territory. If they had policy more like here, I'd still be posting there..instead many members of your site have fully weaponized the rules (they use it on other lefties too, it's not just a left vs right thing) and it's made that site a wholly unpleasant experience.

It's a fair point that this place can get bad, too. I'm not a fan of echo chambers on either side. I appreciate people from the other side of the political coming to post here. I wish more did. This site could use some more lefties and moderates, and some actual debates with pushback. The nice thing here is. You're very unlikely to get hit for much of anything. There's a huge spectrum of opinions spanning the space between left and right, and a broad spectrum of opinions within each. Within each, there are also no shortage of conspiracy theorist with batshit crazy ideas.

As of late, I tend to side with the right most often.

Having other people around to discuss those opposing opinions with, without fear of being slapped down by some bullshit rules, can only help to expand your mind, and keep your thoughts sharp as you have to defend them.
