I'm sorry, but that is not her call to make. Moreover, it is not her seat. She serves US, the citizens of this country. She has no claim to her seat, nor does she have any right to dictate what is done with it.

I know - you're not supposed to speak ill of someone after their passing. And usually, I would agree with that. But while we're all reading about how much of a hero she is, let's not forget that this was a person who also put her own selfish desires above the country she was serving.

We wouldn't be in this mess if she hadn't hung on to her seat for dear life. We could have had a relatively calm transition to a new Justice - especially if she had retired during the Obama administration like everyone on the left had wanted her to do. But I suspect she figured Hillary Clinton was going to be president. And when that turned out not to be the case, she stayed out of spite.

As a human being, I mourn the loss of someone who was loved dearly by family and friends. But there is only so much latitude that I can give. Why would a family release a statement like that within hours of her passing? How petty can you be? And what kind of person says something like that on their death bed in the first place?

Politics naturally attract narcissists (and make no mistake, Ginsburg was as political as they come), but there is a special place for people like her, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Mitt Romney, and Al Gore. When these people don't get their way, they drag the whole country down with them. And I don't really have much empathy for those types.

Also, regarding Trump filling her seat and how long he should wait, I'd argue that not only should he fill it, but that he almost has to fill it at this point.

The Democrats have threatened to contest the election in the courts no matter the outcome: what if we found ourselves in a situation where Trump and Biden were tied at 269 electoral votes, and the Supreme Court was deadlocked 4-4, with Roberts siding with the liberals as he has done so often of late? It would be the literal end of the nation as a contiguous entity, and that scenario is far from unlikely. Given the apocalyptic year that we've all had, it seems like the natural path at this point for the year to end in such a way.
 
So, why do they want to wait until AFTER the election? Given how contentious the election could be wouldn't it be safer with a full Supreme Court? Or are they afraid of what Don will do in a second term?

Um, if nobody gets an electoral majority it goes to the House and they vote by state. Senate similarly picks the VP, except it's every individual senator. SCOTUS isn't a factor unless you get stupid counting stuff, which I will grant has a high probability of occurring but beyond that...

After the Kavenaugh witch trial, endless Russia collusion and impeachment nonsense, Ukraine whatevers, the Sandman witch trial and countless other lies and hoaxes, infinity genders that can change at a moments notice, race riot incitement by "journalists" and many other farces this needs to stop, it can't go on like this. How much more can we give up before we can't be put back together. I want to believe we can still heal from this, but I think I am being optimistic.

I am not advocating "cheating" but if you have a win at this point, you need to take it. Mercy is a privilege of the strong/victors, the non insane left are so far behind at this point they can't afford to lose momentum to someone who will stab them in the back as soon as they are able.

I remind people here that even before Trump ever was elected, before the SJW plague was revealed. Liberals on SB openly talked about how they hoped for a demographic replacement so that the Democratic party would always win and always have a majority aka one party state.

Even then they discussed this and yet when the left have become even worse to the point of pushing normalization of pedos, you still want to compromise and act magnanimous with them?
 
SCOTUS hearings are now the political equivalent of SERE school, but instead of getting shoved into a box with loud music for 24 hours you're strapped to a chair for two weeks and yelled at by millionaire pedophiles. So it's reasonable to suspect that some of Trump's shortlisted appointees might not want to go through that, especially right now.

On the other hand, I think the Democrats gave the GOP the perfect excuse to rush through a SCOTUS replacement. The DNC and Biden campaign already talking about how they're going to contest election results statewide, and have war-gamed all the scenarios. So since thats the inevitable outcome of the 2020 election, it's absolutely foolish to leave to chance a 4-4 outcome in the coming election battle. The damage of a deadlocked election followed by a deadlocked Supreme Court would be massive and lasting, and might even lead to civil war. So it's better to fill it now to maintain law and order. And since RBG was nominated and voted in taking only 42 days total under Clinton, we can do the same for her replacement.

Key word here being 'threaten' FDR was one of the single most powerful president's in history in the terms of popularity and public backing at the time and everybody turned on him when he attempted to pack the court.

In any case, I agree that if we try to nominate to the supreme court before the election the Democrat's will attempt to pack the court.

All I can say is, if nobody was even willing to entertain the idea of compromising, than this country is probably doomed even if we do knock the regressive left out of power; as we'd just be replacing one group of authoritarians with another. Now, I'm not saying I agree that Trump should hold off on nominating a replacement for Ginsburg; I just think it's important that someone on our side makes that argument, and that we at least consider it.

What compromise should we agree with btw? We concede that pedos should be accepted and they should be allowed to rape kids and in exchange the leftists stop rioting? Or do we agree that for the sake of diversity all white males should lose their jobs and said jobs given to white women and whatever minority is in now and in exchange, they stop rioting?

I don't think terthna is arguing this in the sense that the conservatives let the liberals walk all over them, more or less give them the opportunity to show off being fools before the end.

More on-topic. I'm Canadian, RBG doesn't directly affect me. I respect what she did for women in law, and her actions on SCOTUS, at least she generally stood by her convictions from what I know. So I will show her respect for that. RIP. Beyond that, the whole hoopla about replacing her? Yeah, I'll stay away from that.
