Okay, I was going to vote mechanically for the pop limit, but then I saw the above post. Voting for that

Out of curiosity, why are we deploying weapons platforms, mine, rocks, whatever, around the jump points and simply obliterating their jump ships when they arrive?

These are war criminals. Scum.

They have stated that they wish to destroy\subjugate our entire planet, and are willing to use terror to do so.

You do not negotiate with rabid dogs. You SHOOT THEM, or poison them, or run them over with your truck.

For one thing, there's at least 4 pirate points in the system that are easy to hit, and at least 2-4 more that should be easy enough to calculate with a base in the system, so there'd be a lot of places to patrol. And with only ~1Bkm to the actual jump horizon in the system, they could just come in nearly anywhere and be where they need to be pretty quick. It's hard to really control a system, it's much easier (relatively) to control a planetary orbit.

[X] Side with the Lords - Increase Health by 1, increase Economy by 1, Approval Change -1, -20 Support Commons, +10 Support Lords

This is nothing but regulatory meddling. We should oppose such petty tyrannies on ethical grounds.

1. To deploy such weapons, we'd have to send out DropShips to make a zero/zero intercept with the jump points, and that would out the fact that we *have* DropShips.

2. Rocks won't work unless they are moving at a significant velocity, so that won't work unless their movement schedule is regular to the point where we can calculate "throw this so that it passes through the jump region at that time". And again, we'd need to out a DropShip to do it.

I'm pretty sure that "regulatory meddling" is far less of an evil than "people starving".

To be fair, as I understand it our people aren't currently starving per se; this is the government stepping in and providing incentives for the production of more nutritious staple foods versus premium luxury foods, which will significantly increase the population level that we can support (from a population limit of 10 to 12).

Note that our current population is ~550 million people. So we're approaching twice the population of the United States, but since we are spread across an entire Earth sized planet, this is a ridiculously low population density. And of course, due to our unusual history, we're incredibly technologically advanced (even by BTech standards) but tremendously under-industrialized.

And more people equals a larger economy and thus more taxes and military industry which in turn will enable us to build up our forces in order to take the fight to the Dracs both in our system and beyond more quickly than previously possible

Yes, this is why I think it's deeply naive to say "free market! free market!" on this one. We're at war. The government is SUPPOSED to dictate extensively in wartime.

Just checked the Polity screen on the spreadsheet and noticed that our support among the Commons is at 200 while among the Lords it's at 71, and with this decision it should drop it to 51. I'm not saying it's the wrong decision - far from it - but we should really keep an eye on our support among the Lords for future decisions.
