IIRC some Electric cars had issues with the throttles getting stuck on full blast, making them utterly uncontrollable lmao.

To be fair, I've seen that happen on gas cars, too. I was almost hit by one.
That said, I'm definitely not ever getting an electric car. I drive a gas guzzling SUV and I like it that way lol

All depends on battery tech. A price or longevity revolution there is necessary. Until then, they are stuck in the current niche.
That's part of the problem. The other is that almost all firefighting units don't have the right foam equipment to put those chemicals out once they start going.
The problem is that there's nothing really that can extinguish it in the sense of cutting off oxygen. Once the batteries reach a certain temperature, they go full chain reaction, and if the runaway battery reaction even needs oxygen, the byproducts at least in some can include... oxygen, which will proceed to fuel the fire even if external oxygen is cut off. To stop the fire the whole thing needs to get cooled down back below the runaway temperature, and of course it's very hard to get so much water into the half molten battery compartment.

yeah. throwing water on those batteries when they start going up is a bad idea.
Devil's advocate but just because 'plastic is everywhere and is unavoidable' is not a justification for it to be so common.
The stuff is slowly fucking us all up, and we really only leaped onto plastic for profit-related reasons, instead of functional ones.
We were chugging along just fine with copper pipes and glass/ceramic/metal everything else. Plastic was an unneeded sin.

Mostly, I'm reticent to jump aboard the train of More surveillance!", "More regulation!", and "More government!" as the almighty panacea to all the stuff on Ms. Bradford's loony wish-list. For those that have voluntary, entrepreneurial solutions that work effectively and are genuinely sustainable (read: not merely advertised as such) ... then okay, color me interested. Just ... not when it's a Trojan Horse for Wokeness, Socialism, or all the other big-government "-isms" the Western World is already up to its eyeballs in.

and the only problematic part in it is the toxic additives.
Also, as he noted, copper requires mining which is a very dirty industry.
Please do not advocate for the devil. he has far too many simps already today.
What we should be looking at are:
1. water treatment plants should filter micro plastics. we have the tech. but are not using it
2. use less toxic additives
3. have cleanup programs where we pay people to collect plastic trash from the sea and the like so it can be properly disposed of.
Come on, you know what I mean by plastic. I don't mean cast iron skillet seasoning, I mean the real nasty dime a dozen chinesium plastics that make up most crap nowadays. The stuff which visibly degrades after a couple days in the sun and pollutes like crazy.
