I mean, the first few minutes at least I agree to some extent...George Friedman made the same point about it being an 80-year cycle, but that it’s a result of us facing a major crisis generally rather than just a war (independence from Britain in the 1770s as we became a nation), the 1860s as the issue of slavery and the relationship between the federal government and the states came to a head, the 1940s as we came out of a major economic crisis and the world was a dangerous place, and now the 2020s as we deal with a much more interconnected world and the dangers associated with it (such as a pandemic that’s on the order of the Spanish Flu at least), as well as the dangers of cyber warfare and manipulation via social media. Which, again, Pool talks about.

I will add that I did watch at least some of Admiral Phil Davidson’s testimony before Congress a couple months ago, and despite the bombast in the press, both parties are taking the Chinese threat seriously. Or at least the ones on the Armed Services committees are (side note for anyone wondering, Davidson is the now-retired head of USINDOPACOM) and a sharp man).

As for Biden, I think that’s less him sucking up to China and anxious to undo anything and everything Trump did, only to find out the hard way that yes, Trump was right to persist.

But “America is taking China seriously, and despite all our problems we are putting a hell of an effort in” is not nearly as click-worthy as “China is going to eat America’s lunch!”

Side note, too, the reason I initially wandered into this thread is that it’s June 4th, and I wanted to say “fuck China.” Not that I needed an excuse because fuck China anyway but still.

It is just a constant thing with me having to defend the military because the same arguments about us bowing to them... The US Military sees China as a VERY valid threat and wants to make sure China and RUssia would not be able to defeat us in any war they throw at us....

Whole situation is messed up. If the British hadn’t been dumb enough to not try and retain it when they had the chance...(sigh).
