Maybe this is also part of why Biden left so many of our interpreters and Afghan allies behind; most Afghan's are hardcore libertarians that would make Rand Paul blush.

Cannot have more libertarian minded 'minorities' causing problems for Dem narratives.

Anyone else has a bad feeling about next Saturday. Biden said he wanted to withdraw from Afghanistan on 11 Sept 21. The Taliban have been mocking various events in American History for a few weeks now. And we have a few hundred American Citizens still trapped in Afghanistan at the mercy of the Taliban. I think some of our countryman might be killed on film by next Saturday. I hope I am wrong on this one.

If that does happen, I'm pretty sure Biden will respond by blowing up more innocent civilians, and calling it a victory; not, you know, anyone actually responsible for the atrocity.

Standard Obama/neocon/neolib playbook: Cruise Missile/Drone diplomacy and 'threat neutralization' more on a po;itical and optics basis than actual reality.

There is a solid chance that american citizens will be murdered on live telivision that day.

If that happens Biden will vanish for a couple days again.

Lastly, the US spent more money on nation building in Afghanistan than it did in Europe with the Marshall Plan. if that isn't sobering enough, I don't know what is.
Christ on a bike. I sort of suspected as much, but wow.

Wouldn't be surprised if future generations dismiss the locals of the middle east as irredeemable savages and if someone wants anything to improve, they have to do it themselves by colonizing the region.

The Middle East has been at its height when one empire has ruled undisputed. When the warlords are brought to heel, the various sects ground into paste, when the Sultan/Caliph's will is absolute, do the Arabs, Persians and Turks accomplish wonders.

I think for many of us are already at that point at the very least we've resigned to "fence it off and let it rot."

At the point the only thing keeping a land and culture together is a ruler playing toy soldier, then it's no longer a land or a culture it's a sandbox. Do we really want to waste all that time effort and resources on a sandbox? There is a reason why that area is called "the graveyard of empires" it's a snapshot of what a dead earth would look like.

Indeed. But they need one caliph/sultan/shah for that. And arabs, turks, persians and afgans being themselves, they need cyvil war to decide who would be lucky one .Or rather few cyvil wars.First in tribes, then in states, and later among states.
