American bases abroad and the petro-dollar plus the GWOT say otherwise. We've really been an empire since the Louisiana Purchase and have only extended it since then. What the people want doesn't matter in any empire it is what the rulers can get away with and they have been running the show since the beginning. Democracy and the constitution are and probably have always been farces to justify the plutocratic rule of the US after deposing the British.
Has any generation of Americans in the 20th century wanted empire? We have it because our ruling class wants it and frankly needs it to maintain their economic position. We've been the global hegemon since 1945 and we've not been nice about it from the beginning; the US just realized it was better for business to be less nasty than the alternative systems like the Soviets or Fascists, so brutal force is reserved only for those who buck the system but are weak enough so as not to disrupt global supply chains. The world powers that could cause problems are fought more clandestinely so as not to risk nuclear war or at least a repeat of WW2, which actually got much closer to collapsing the global system than most people realize.

The Biden Administration is done. Shit is getting worst on the Ground in Afghanistan. Not a single member of that Administration is gonna be left in place in a months time. This is a type of situation you can't PR spin your way out of. And no media organization can save them.
2020 is proving more and more to be a poisoned chalice because next year the boomers start retiring in mass and the global credit crunch starts and the dems are left holding the bag for all of it.

I'm laughing because the left is clearly unused to getting any size of stick from the 4th estate. Complaints about the dirty right leaning, war mongering media abound across the internet. There's literally a thread in Whitehall calling for the reform of the media based entirely around how unfair they're being right now.
The OP literally used them editing Biden's stutter as a particular complaint.
