United States Biden administration policies and actions - megathread

The Dems managed to convince everyone that Republicans were suddenly racists in the 70's/80's, they probably don't see why they can't try it again.

I don't think it'll work as well for them this time.
It didn't work in the 80s. Look at how massively Reagan won

Ehh, it's been pretty accurate anecdotally as well.

A very large chunk of people think we're racists.

Tbh I don't even care. I just wish republican politicians would grow some balls and stop being afraid of being called racists, and just do their jobs.
Many of them probably don't actually care, and are just using the fear of being called racists as an excuse because they don't want to do their jobs; or at least, not the ones we elected them to do.

Troll level: Texas.

Do you like your suburbs and quaint towns with single houses and picket fences? Well, you're racist and the federal government will make sure you'll soon come into contact with a higher housing density.

your a litteral socialist no one here belives you when you say your pro any kind of business.
Uh huh... What do you mean by socialist, and what makes you think I am one? Even if I were (And it's not how I'd identify myself.) the latter doesn't follow from the former. As someone who works for a small business that's like a second family to me I do indeed care on a personal level. On the more broad and intellectual level I think that the efficiency of big business is generally preferable. Either way I am very much in favour of a strong competitive economy.

Which is actually kinda irrelevant anyway. A speaker's motivation doesn't change the truth or value of what they say, and if your best reaponse is a sad and inaccurate ad hominem attack it kinda seems that you can't debate the point on merit but you're feeling defensive about it.

Texas: "Help people and small businesses suffering from covid!? Fuck that noise!"
This is a bit frustrating, considering that small businesses were massively hurt by covid lockdowns in comparison to big businesses.

And when Texas ended our lockdown, there were people and politicians that said it was 'reckless' and that we cared more about money than lives. If we had stayed locked down, the small businesses would have been hurt more.

Abbott used money from one part of his budget to try and stem the tide of illegal immigrants, a wave that our federal government created a pull factor for. And since the federal government is now providing funds without saying how those funds must be used, he's planning on refilling the budget that was spent.

And undocumented immigration is an issue that tangles with covid, because then you have undocumented people moving throughout the state. If any of them have Covid, they are a vector for spreading the virus.

Well, yeah that's all kind of true at least. I disagree with you about interpretation and emphasis on some of it I think, but the only bit I'd really argue is at the end where you seem to be suggesting that a wall would have any meaningful impact on covid spread. It's pretty debatable how much it'd impact illegal immigration in the first place, but the real issue is that the cat is thoroughly out of the bag now. What's the infection rate, something like 1/10? Unless his border wall efforts involve developing a time machine, spending covid relief money on a wall does nothing to actually relieve those afflicted. It just seems like a political stunt at the expense of the citizens.

The wall was a pretty dumb idea from the get go, nothing more than a grand gesture from trump that he lied about repeatedly. Texas shouldn't have fronted any cost of paying for such, and the fact that their government chose to hardly seems like justification for spending more money on it that was distributed with the intention of helping people who's lives have gone to shit.

Okay I’m confused why do you think a border wall won’t work? Like what’s the thought process there?
