You do realize that for the past half of a century it was civillians who told the military what to do like a pimp tells it's hoes?
I'm not saying this to be disrespectful. But the highest ranks in the military the Joint Chiefs obey the secretary of Defense, and the President, and most presidents have not served in modern times.
All SECDEFs have. The SECARM hasn't, but SECDEF has.
