The allies in Normandy have almost absolute air dominance and a massive arty superiority.
Ukraine has none of these, not even close. In reality, is the weak side of both.
A bit difficult to win a counteroffensive with these limitations.
On all points of the front the Ukrainians are inching forward. You can't say the same for the Russians. Even the Russian Bloggers are saying that.

At what cost? More than 30% of the NATO hardware is already lost/destroyed.
Serious question. Do you even know what war is really like. It ain't like what you see in a movie. A lot of war is long grinding methodical battles. The only difference between wars 80 years ago and now is we have cameras all over the place. This is the normal for heavy warfare.

Yes, I know what a real war is. I have been in one.
What the level of destruction tells you is that the counteroffensive is at serious risk of failing.
Not talking of the war but of this operation in particular.

I don't get the same feeling here. The Russian forces are Morale impaired. It takes 1 solid penetration for their lines to break. If/when that happens, I'm betting well see more of the wholesale retreat and surrender they Russians have become noted for.

Sigh do you know how many towns and trenches the Ukrainians have to clear. How about you pull up Google Earth and look at all the towns and trenches on the Frontline. This is gonna take at least 2 months to fully clear out.

Except for the Rosvets, they have had such troops for a very long time.

The NKVD "blocking formations" were in reality more about shoring up poorly equipped conscript levies with a leavening of hardened veteran troops that were dug in and fighting hard, not "these guys aren't even fighting the Germans themselves; they're only here to ruthlessly machine-gun you in the back if you retreat" as pop culture likes to play it.

While Ukraine is receiving state of the art Western equipment, it looks like a lot of countries are using this opportunity to get rid of their Soviet-made crap (even modernized, like the Polish tanks) to replace it with more modern, Western vehicles/weapons, and older Western stockpiles (e.g. the Bradleys) are being shipped over for the same reason?

Countries shift their "old stock" and Ukraine gets weapons, vehicles, ammunition, aircraft, and supplies. Everyone wins.

...Except Russia.

This war is going to take awhile and Russia will likely fight it until they cant fight any more.
