Armchair General's DonbAss Derailed Discussion Thread (Topics Include History, Traps, and the Ongoing Slavic Civil War plus much much more)

Big News if True.

Journalist Seymour Hersh has inside sources that have revealed that "The Russians have yet to put any of their main forces in."

This is pretty bad news for Ukraine considering how much of Ukraine Russia has already grabbed with its ancilliary forces like mobiks, prisoners and crewmembers/sailors of warships. Imagine what will happen when Russia actually brings in its professional soldiers like the 1st Guards Tank Army, 8th Guards Combined Arms Army, Guards Spetsnaz Brigades or the VDV/Airborne, the Russian Arctic Brigade or the Russian Fleets Naval Infantry. Professional contracted military forces meant to fight NATO and Japan!

I don't think Ukraine would last three days!

Sooooo...I'mma going on a limb here, Hersch is being paid by Putin to make shit up.

China absolutely has the ability to produce the kinds of ammunition Russia wants. Artillery shells are relatively simple to manufacture, and can be 'cheaply' made in bulk. This would present a serious issue for the Ukrainians, because currently one of their best shots at gaining a decisive strategic advantage, is Russia actually running its stockpiles out.

China supporting the Russian war effort long-term could turn this whole thing into exactly the grinding attrition war most people don't want to see.

Unless China ups its quality and transportation of those shells, many of them are going to be dangerous to use.

"Chinese-made crap" is a thing for a reason, and I fully expect China to cut corners when they can.

Hell, this may be a blessing in disguise if a lot of their sold war materiel is more dangerous to the Russians than it is being fired on Ukrainians! 🤔

Russian Roulette: Artillery Edition!

If as many as 10% of shells fail to fire, the Russians will still be in a better place for having hundreds of thousands of additional rounds of ammo.

It's only if they're shitty enough to destroy the guns, which is actually pretty hard to do, that the Russians would stand to lose more than they gain.

It's going to be far more than 10%, but I see your point.

In fact, that will probably create another WWI parallel. The 'Iron Harvest' is still a thing, where farmlands along the old western front still regularly dig up unexploded shells that were launched, but never exploded and simply buried themselves deep into the soil.

Kinda... But the devil may be in the details, so without a lot of classified, if even measured data, it's impossible to say. Even small, within tolerance of the guns deviations in powder composition, processing and quality, shell shaping, and so on, can have very significant effects on shell dispersion, which in turn can have a major impact on the utility of said artillery. If shell dispersion doubles, to statistically hit a given target close enough you need 4 times as many shells, which means 4x more time spent firing them, exposed to potential counter-battery fire, and 4x the barrel wear, and 4x the logistical footprint of bringing the shells to the frontline, all these things with their own cascading consequences.

Sometimes I wonder if Russians are a touch like East Asians. Don’t go against the state, keep your head down, but they are capable of breathtaking levels of passive aggressiveness and malicious compliance.

Would that be right?
When you are stripped of all but two blades, they will become finely honed.

Belarusian partisans sabotaged a Ru early warning aircraft.

New set up to replace the RU 'BTG' units, the 'Assault Detachment'.

Congratulations to Russian leadership for reinventing the stormtrooper tactics for the modern age, the Imperial German Army would be so proud.
Also funny how they went from 10 tanks in a BTG to this, almost as if something happened to all that metal.
Guess further copying of Wagner group while sidelining it, resulting in more WW1 style of warfare is to come.

Two Twinks and a Porcine (Animarchy History, some Yank named Falcon and Lazerpig) having a Hot Tub Roundtable discussing the Ukraine War. Now ask yourself, are these people ignorant or evil?

Takes them about twenty minutes to get on topic... uhhh I've only seen the first half hour. They dunk on Mark Felton, apparently he's only an honorary Doctorate? They also started discussing how Russia using radar beams to guide missiles to targets in Ukraine finally.
