A bit.

Full-auto is suppressive fire. You aren't expected to hit anything. You're just supposed to prevent return fire.
We are not taught full auto in today's army.
We are taught burst.fire.
Because accurate sustained fire is what kills the enemies of the United States.
The SAW and M240 for instance are considered the highest casualty inflicting weapon in the infantry outside of a vic

An MG3 needs a barrel replacement after about 15 seconds of continuous fire.

EDIT: An MG3 ain't gonna do what a crew-served water-cooled WWI-era machine gun was gonna do: "sit there and fire all day".
Continuous fire is not the same as cumulative fire. Firing for 15 seconds straight means your position is so fucked that a 5-10 second barrel replacement is the least of your concerns. If you're able to instead fire more sensible 3-5 second bursts, you're going to keep their heads down without necessitating a barrel change pretty much ever.

There's a reason why 40mm Bofors AA guns were water-cooled instead of air-cooled. This made them heavier but meant the crews didn't need to do barrel replacements while enforcing a "no fly zone".

IIRC the the WWI example I suggested was British machine gun crews getting off 2 million rounds while only swapping out barrels because the barrel got too old instead of too hot.

You dint use continuous fire in modern day combat.
You use bursts to suppress

An interesting academic article about Ukraine with some cool maps:

One of the maps in the article above, specifically on page 74 of this article, shows that there's a huge Russophone-speaking community along Ukraine's southeastern coast. However, the overwhelming majority of them are very likely overwhelmingly pro-Ukraine after all of the events of the last eight years.

With regards to the much talked about Kherson offensive being hyped up by Ukie boosters, is there any actual evidence for it beyond said booster accounts talking about it on Twitter? Like, clear cut things like geolocated images of Ukrainian troops in the areas they've claimed to occupy?

Lol, yeah... Down from "Russia will take Kiev in the first week." to "Russia will cut off the entire Ukrainian army in an eastern pocket." to "Russia planned things this way so they could turn the entire Donbas into a cauldron and wipe out the best of Ukrainian forces." to "Russia will surround Severodonetsk and trap a significant force there." to "Oh yeah? Well, by throwing men into a meat grinder Russia have eventually, almost taken the city through direct, frontal fighting."

But sure, it's everyone else dealing cope.

And sadly for you, none of this is true outside your head, which I live in rent free.

Go on...

And be specific. I want to know what was specifically countered by what you quoted in the Independent article.

Pretty much every notion made here by Ukie boosters in general; the Russians aren't taking the massive casualties claimed, the Ukrainians are because their logistics have broken down and now their morale follows as evidenced by the increasing reports of desertion/surrender. The daily casualty rate admitted to by Ukrainian officials continues to exponentially climb as the Russians continue to make territorial gains. You yourself linked a a Twitter chain in the other thread here which shows how Russian soldiers are literally just moving around openly in column formation simply because they know the Ukrainians can't do anything to stop them.

Anyone who has bothered to study warfare knows this signals a coming collapse of the Ukrainian Army.

Any idea when?

Pre-War there was between 50,000 and 70,000 men in the JTO, but they received indeterminate amounts of reinforcements since then, so it's hard to say. Based off publicly admitted casualty rates since June 1st, 20,000+ KIA and WIA seems likely and that's not including PoWs and MIAs, so they probably are reaching the breaking point in terms of what units can take based off WWII findings. There's been reports of Territorial Units sent in the east taking 65% casualty rates and effectively disintegrating thereafter.
