Getting involved in Korea was justified, Vietnam wasn't, and pretending it was is part of the reason parts of the population have turned against the US military in a lot of ways.

Vietnam was about France trying to make the US bleed to help them keep their colony and stress test how far NATO Art 5 would stretch.

No amount of military strength or accomplishments by soldiers, sailors, and airmen change that Vietnam was a war we never should have gotten involved in.
