Armchair General's DonbAss Derailed Discussion Thread (Topics Include History, Traps, and the Ongoing Slavic Civil War plus much much more)

A lot of countries have compromised their national defense to supply Ukraine

Postage-stamps like Slovakia and the Baltics were already dependent on NATO at large (i.e. the US) for protection from serious Russian threats. And Poland had those T-72s in reserve for a reason. To say nothing of their order for 250 M1A2 Abrams being expedited due to their generosity.

The obvious logical disconnect being that the rhetoric made here actually proves the original argument the video was trying to argue against.

Are you having a hard time understanding that if Ukraine blows up Russia's army, with the Western weapons designed to blow up Russia's army, then the West doesn't need weapons to blow up that which has already been blown up? What a remarkable creature you are.

Well, there is the same mass of morons in Poland who cry that we are "weakening militarily!" because we are sending our T-72s to Ukraine and we are supposed to get Abrams in some time, which means never, because the USA won't give us them, etc.
I would like to remind you that Poland does not have any stocks of ammunition for T-72 and PT-91 guns which are not old and hopeless junk lying in a warehouse because nobody wanted to order decent ammunition. Most of these shells are older than the tankers themselves. Because they are about 40 years old.
In fact, our T-72s would stand a poor chance against the Russian T-72s, so it's a poor loss of combat equipment whose combat value is meager today. But you know, Russian trolls have to give a fuck about something.
Another one of their games is why the hell do we need Abrams, we'll wreck our logistics like the Germans did during WWII! Because four tanks! Fuck with the fact that every division has different ones, and that we're just giving away our T-72s making the situation better. We need to complain because muh Russia will attack us and we'll be up the ass like in 39!
A lot of them are so called Bartosians, from Mr. Jacek Bartosiak whom I naively trusted at the beginning because he was a good talker and I didn't really know about modern military. Only the appearance of real experts in military matters and strategy let me see how much Bartosiak lies and deceives.

Why exactly do you call them postage stamps? Because they're not notable for much other than their beautiful scenery and architecture?

He's probably calling them postage stamps due to their small size. The city I live in has a much larger population than Estonia does. It's also "small" by American standards despite the fact that a paper map of Indianiapolis large enough to tell you what street you are on is also large enough to completely describe Estonia's entire road and railway network ... and then some.

No, its a term referring to their size, population in low single digit millions, and all the consequences of it. Like half of them not even having a real air force and needing allies to provide fighters for air policing.

Also Reportedly destroyed by the Ukrainian military...

If the Russians are using that then they're more desperate than my family is when we actually have to use my dad's '65 Porsche 911 on city streets. That Porsche lacks practically every single safety feature the '85 CRX my eldest brought home when she was 16 had.

That CRX didn't even have power steering and it was still a massive improvement beacuse it had seat belts and disc brakes.

That's what people were saying about Ukrainian T-64s for the same reason - the dated age of their APFSDS dart ammunition. Turns out that wasn't as big an issue as they expected...

On your own fucking soil? lol_lmao_scorpion.png. I sympathize, man, we have Americans that insist carriers are useless.

More their population, and thus their tax base, which in turn limits how much they can spend on their military. Not that their armies are useless, mind you - the asymmetric, partisan style of warfare Ukraine used so effectively against Russian supply lines is one we've been openly teaching the Baltics to employ (and by openly, I mean there were regular news articles on it over the past several years). Since these nations are already in NATO it's not like they need to provide their own air cover. Ring that Article 5 bell and watch the AMRAAM's fly, baby.

Not just the ARAAMS. Watch VERYTHING fly.

Ukraine has a reserve of the best APFSDS Soviet Union had at the day of its fall. Even Russians still use that stuff besides the upgraded variants.
Poland had only the export grade crap (3BM-15), and had to improve on that by importing some rather low number of Israeli penetrators from 120mm to be hacked into 125mm rounds, and then followed by attempts at domestic copying of that, resulting in rounds of roughly 500mm RHAe penetration.

Everything including some big things that if they fly, fly only once...

"Once you turn that key you are committed. There is no 'oops' switch, anywhere."

How dare he smears Defense Minister Shoigu. Sure he somehow owns a $15 million dollar palace on a salary of $120,000 a year but the cost of living is lower in Russia and there's probably a surplus of places for the upper middle class. And he didn't even buy it. It was his (then eighteen years old) daughter. She probably just made good investments.

My parents 19-bedroom mansion was last appraised to be worth about $2 million. The morgtgage cheque for a million dollar loan is in the neighbourhood of $6,000 or more per month and not really affordable by someone with a $120k/yr salary.

How many people do they need to employ for cleaning and maintenance? A building that big needs staff to take care of it.

My mom does it by herself. She raised 17 kids and keeps dad on a leash without any help. She can also keep track of her 83? grandkids and six great-grandkids.
