Honestly, as much as people rag on Feminism and frame it in terms of the escalating Culture War, I have to wonder if the Great Recession (and resulting economic uncertainty) crushing Millennials’ economic prospects is also to blame? May not be the only factor at work, of course, but if the job market’s rough and you can’t buy a house, odds are lots of people who’d otherwise start families will feel “discouraged” and won’t start families like their well-off Boomer parents did.
Indeed, while the Boomers may have fooled around in their youth and grew up to be a rather “ineffective” cadre of world leaders, at least they had an economically sound future to look forward to and bring up their kids in. The kids they had who are adults now, on the other hand, can’t really say the same. In short, wherever people here stand on gender roles and sexual morality, “It’s the economy, stupid!” shouldn’t go ignored, either.
