Trump Investigations Thread

I'm not sure my violin is small enough to play that sad tune Abhorsen.
I’m not sure mine is big enough to be seen.

Bragg is just a idiot promoted beyond his competence. You see a lot of that in government service.
He's not an idiot: he's a politician. Yes, this prosecution has no chance of success, but that's not important. It plays well to his NYC voter base. This will set him up as someone important, big enough to win important D primaries in NYC, which is basically a guaranteed win of the general.

If the case is humiliatingly defeated, that probably won't work.

If he ends up in prison for violating the law himself...

That is something for the prosecution to prove. Yes he has been indicted....problem is Trump is stubborn enough to ask for a speedy trial and then bury them in evidence he didn't do it.

An indictment is NOT a conviction.
Then-Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards (D) was indicted in March 1985 and was acquitted by grand jury in Fall 1985.

JUST IN: NY Judge Reportedly Issuing Gag Order On Trump

Former President Donald Trump's legal team believes the Manhattan judge will issue a gag order on the former president before he is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

This gag order would bar Trump from talking about his arrest. If Trump violates such an order, he could serve 30 days in jail or be fined $1000, New York law states.

"The Trump legal team now thinks that the Manhattan judge will take the unprecedented step of silencing the presidential frontrunner with an unconstitutional gag order tomorrow," one source told the Daily Mail.

"The Trump legal team is considering adding a First Amendment lawyer to the effort to combat this and will fight it all the way," the source added.

A gag order could prevent the former president from giving a widely anticipated speech the Trump team has scheduled for Tuesday evening at Mar-a-Lago.

Jason Miller, one of Trump's advisors, told Newsmax the former president would be flying from the New York arraignment to Florida for an 8:15 PM speech.

"I think the entire world will be watching just how strong and just how fervent he is, that we must continue this Make America Great Again movement, because you can't have Trump policies without President Trump," Miller said of the scheduled speech.

BREAKING: Trump Lawyer Says Trump Will "Loudly And Proudly" Plead Not Guilty

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump's lawyer announced Trump will "loudly and proudly" plead not guilty when appearing in court on Tuesday.

Trump's counsel, Joe Tacopina, appeared on CNN's State of the Union and told the host, Dana Bash, Trump is excited to plead not guilty.

"This is not not normal operating procedure. It's all up in the air. All the Tuesday stuff is still very much up in the air other than the fact that we will very loudly and proudly say not guilty," Tacopina said in response to a question about a potential Trump mugshot.

As Trending Politics previously reported, the former president released a statement on Sunday that said Trump will be giving a speech at Mar-a-Lago hours after his Tuesday arraignment.:

On Sunday morning, the Trump campaign sent out a press release saying that the 45th President will give a speech at Mar-A-Lago just hours after being arraigned in New York over the "hush money" witch hunt being carried out by Alvin Bragg.
Jason Miller discussed Trump's plan with Newsmax on Sunday morning: "President Trump is very emboldened; he's very strong; he feels the support from all the people who are backing him. So tomorrow, on Monday, he'll be flying up to New York – of course heading down the courthouse on Tuesday morning.
"And then – it's going to be announced here very shortly – President Trump is going to be giving a speech on Tuesday night at Mar-a-Lago 8:15 p.m. I think the entire world will be watching just how strong and just how fervent he is, that we must continue this Make America Great Again movement, because you can't have Trump policies without President Trump," he added.

Justice Dept. said to have more evidence of possible Trump obstruction at Mar-a-Lago

Ex-staffer's emails, texts are guiding investigators, who increasingly suspect Trump went through boxes after subpoena

Justice Department and FBI investigators have amassed fresh evidence pointing to possible obstruction by former president Donald Trump in the investigation into top-secret documents found at his Mar-a-Lago home, according to people familiar with the matter.

The additional evidence comes as investigators have used emails and text messages from a former Trump aide to help understand key moments last year, said the people, who like others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing criminal investigation.

The new details highlight the degree to which special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into the potential mishandling of hundreds of classified national security papers at Trump's Florida home and private club has come to focus on the obstruction elements of the case — whether the former president took or directed actions to impede government efforts to collect all the sensitive records.

The emphasis on obstruction marks a key distinction so far between the Mar-a-Lago investigation and a separate Justice Department probe into how a much smaller number of classified documents ended up in an insecure office of President Biden's, as well as his Delaware home. The Trump investigation is much further along than the Biden probe, which began in November and is being overseen by a different special counsel, Robert K. Hur. Biden's lawyers say they have quickly handed over all classified documents found in Biden's possession.

The Trump investigation team has spent much of its time focusing on events that happened after Trump's advisers received a subpoena in May demanding the return of all documents with classified markings, the people familiar with the matter said. Smith is trying to determine if Trump or others mishandled national security documents, and if there is enough evidence to ask a grand jury to charge him with obstructing the investigation.

The Mar-a-Lago investigation is one of four separate criminal probes involving Trump, who is campaigning for another term in the White House. Trump has been indicted by a New York grand jury that heard evidence about money paid to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. He is set to make his first court appearance in that case Tuesday. He is also being investigated by the Justice Department and a state prosecutor in Georgia over efforts to block Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.

An FBI spokesman referred questions to a spokesman for the special counsel, who declined to comment.

Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said in a written statement: "The witch-hunts against President Trump have no basis in facts or law. The deranged special counsel and the DoJ have now resorted to prosecutorial misconduct by illegally leaking information to corrupt the legal process and weaponize the justice system in order to manipulate public opinion and conduct election interference, because they are clearly losing all across the board."

The statement went on to point to the Biden classified documents probe, as well as the investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server when she was secretary of state, suggesting that conduct there was worse than anything that happened at Mar-a-Lago. "President Trump is the only leader fighting for the Constitution and to protect the American people from being abused by those who want to destroy our system of government," Cheung said.
According reports, Special Counsel Jack Smith has discovered new evidence pointing to Trump's obstruction in the Mar-a-lago document case. Details:

- The Special Counsel has new witness statements, security camera footage, and other documentary evidence.

- According to insiders involved in the investigation, "new and significant evidence" indicates that following the issuance of a subpoena for documents, Trump went through the contents of boxes stored in his residence, ostensibly motivated by a wish to retain specific items.

- Trump also allegedly personally examined at least some of those boxes after they were moved.

I TOLD you they weren't going to play fair! I. TOLD. YOU!

The DA moving in was just the foot in the door for every Dem operative to stuff more charges they can think up and get the DA to add on.

And there will be parts of the GOP establishment which will just go along with this farce, like they did before, and this is how AG Garland can get his revenge for being denied a SCOTUS seat as well. All of Trump's enemies are likely to begin moving in en masse, as soon as they can, and Biden's effectively made it clear they will not allow Trump to become POTUS again by every legal means available.

This is unlikely to be the 'mistep' some think, the regime knows what it is doing, and it is going to demonstrate it's power.

We are a banana republic with nukes and we sell Hollywood and burger's instead of banana's.

This is a simple bumb-rush. The Left will pile absolutely everything they can while at the same time do all they can to hem Trump in and restrain him...thus the gag order. (Which I've never really understood how those are legal)

If Trump can remain standing after this...the damage he can do to them is immense. Which is why the Left is pulling out every thing they can.

It...gets worse. They are turning Donald Trump into a martyr.

Yeah but will people be willing to take action if they do this an succeed in keeping Trump from running?
They aren't going to prevent Trump from running.

They don't want to prevent Trump from running.

They know what they're doing is strengthening his base, and that's their intention.

They did it in 2016 and it backfired. They did it to MAGA republicans in 2022, and it worked.

They're going to prop Trump up, because they think Trump is their best option to beat Biden.

They very much want Trump to run and win the Primaries. This isn't some conspiracy theory, rather, it's a strategy they are open about employing.

They were even donating to MAGA campaigns in 2022.

And why do they want that? Because they think they have a candidate that can beat him? The only way they can win is to cheat again. In which case, we get to live in Interesting Times. At least hopefully, because the alternative is worse.
