As for QQ, I feel they did the smart thing in eradicating politics. No offense to Zoe or the others here, but I strongly argued we do the same. Politics brings out the worst in people and I felt it would do so here. So far I've been wrong on that front. Conservatives and Libertarians control the culture here and use that control to foster debate rather than shut it down. But that won't always be a guaranteed state of affairs. And i'm always leery of things sliding into SB lite.
I feel it's the forum effect and being on the internet. It leads to people feeling self important and huffing their own farts then that narcissm clashes with someone else's narcissm.
I prefer to treat them with respect and decency, because that is the right thing to do and it denies them what they come here to seek. They want to feel persecuted, so deny them the opportunity.
Of course I won't act like a total asshole but just letting myself loose with chanspeak and some swearwords is enough.
I won't escalate to intentional disrespectful slurs except as an example like oy vey. I rather read people that do it like kiwifarms who are more open to saying what's on their minds and doling out the insults.

From what I can tell, the legit sort of SJW types who really ARE outsiders to most fandoms and are only very recent and also very shallow “fan” types, don’t really mingle too much with the parts of fandoms that went SJW
I am not sure, if they can do that. And I actually find that headline to be hilarious and not offensive at all. And I am give a pretty detailed account of why,

Heh, that reminds me of when Tippy in the Welcome Thread said to one such person that you could say whatever you want as long as it wasn't apologia for 3 specific groups or anything that sounds blatantly illegal after they went on about how "OH! YOU CAN'T SILENCE ME! THE TRUTH SHALT BE TOLD!*"
I guess I can just copy the explanation from one of my profile posts on SB:
Two years on the forums was enough to recognize their apparent slant. I stuck in CrW writing my own fanfic but then came the PM controversy. It was eye-opening to watch so many users jump on the "hail hydra" bandwagon and start throwing spergrage fits over a perceived years-long conspiracy to take over their precious forums. I saw Mandemon, a guy who I knew from time on another site as anything but conservative get attacked for a factual error in one of his posts trying to urge calm. All of it over some out of context screenshots (many of which were found to be fabrications). Additional glimpses into whitehall also hinted that the mods were being...spotty when it came to cracking down on more inflammatory posts.
You mean how a lot of posts calling for violence were infracted? And then those infractions disappeared? And then reappeared after a bunch of folks over on QQ noticed that something screwy was going on?
Over in the specific realm of CrW I followed, I've observed some tendencies and preconceptions that are more than a little creatively stifling. Longtime members of a certain fandom being excessively on guard against "edgy" traits in a story or plot elements that are apparently overused. Meanwhile, the stories that have gotten their own threads this past year are almost exclusively SI's. The quality varies, but fuck, a different premise would be nice. If there's a larger issue across the whole board of trend chasing, I wouldn't be surprised. Oh, and it's fairly fashionable for people to dunk on certain older, popular fanfics that kickstarted the whole trend. There was minor shitstorm from people being willfully ignorant of one particular setting's details that blew up at least twice this past year.
Yeah. My involvement with CRW is limited, but this matches up with what I've heard from other people. There's a lot of readers and writers forming their own little cliques and turning fandom into serious business. I'm just glad I'm writing for a fandom that doesn't fucking care about shipping.
And with all that in mind, I just kept off spacebattles apart from reading what few stories I like there.
The desire to know what happened with some of the mods who got the boot as a result of the PM controversy led me here after a short search. Because I can already tell that this site is more mentally sound, I may transfer some of my projects here just to be safe as SB cracks and splinters even further.
Please do. Hell, the only reason I didn't headhunt you for this site when I noticed you'd left Spacebattles was that the winter holidays were busy, and I'm a chronic procrastinator.
Simply put. I created the Conservative mega PM as a place to help Conservative members refine debating techniques. Back then I was still naive enough to believe that they were fully responsible for their own problems and so I wanted to help them. And for a little while it seemed to be working. And them came a sort of Eureka moment. The guys were talking with each other and realized 'hey this is great. We can talk, chill with each other and not get shit slung our way, awesome!' So it became a bit of a social hang out group. Focused more on Having fun and chilling rather than debating. Or if they did debate they'd do it amongst themselves. They didn't always agree with each other. But usually tried to rationally explain their points and counter points. Ironically in this way, fulfilling the original goals of the PM to begin with.
I'm not sure why you invited me, but I'm glad you did.
When that invitation arrived, I think I was a few months from dropping off Spacebattles altogether. The few threads that I was really active in had dried up, General Discussion was a wasteland, and I was working at a dead-end job that was sucking all the light out of my life.
The PM turned that all around. I got to chill out with a bunch of people who knew a Hell of a lot more than I did about politics, entertainment, sports. It was a much-needed release valve that helped me cope with shit in real life. I made new friends, and then I got the chance to reconnect with an old friend. I'll always owe you for that.
Frankly, I can't imagine where I'd be without the PM. Seriously, I can't imagine it. Where I am right now, I got there by a long string of chance encounters and gambles that probably wouldn't have happened without the influence of you guys, and I'm better off for it.
