That is SICK. Makes me think that VLS-launched Hellfire-L thing they did for the LCS program is neater than they're letting on. Actual over-the-horizon capability.
Just look at the next-gen air-to-ground missile, the AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile. It's basically a reboot of the AGM-169 Joint Common Missile, with triple-mode hybrid guidance integrating laser, millimeter wave radar, and imaging infrared, configured for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing launch. It's intended as an all-in-one replacement for Hellfire, Maverick, and TOW, and the entire reason imaging infrared is in the equation is that it substantially enhances the ability to do algorithm-based autonomous targeting.
(While derived from the helicopter-launched Hellfire, the Brimstone is set up exclusively for fixed wing launch. MBDA at one point proposed a helicopter-launched version, but this was never actually developed.)
