Battletech Welcome to the Jungle

I rather enjoyed that wanking...
fusion bomb-pumped X-ray lasers can be so much fun in space.
... unless there is a dud.
... and I'm the poor sap dispatched to go disarm it.

Yep. Murphy's law would have my SI being the poor cannonfodder RedShirt EOD tech sent to clear and safe both the busted Pinto and space station.

If you are talking about what I think you are talking about, it's the best example of why fiction(fan- or otherwise) shouldn't have more than two authors.

EDIT: Typo
Someone has resurrected the concept and is going through inserting their Super Speshul Mary-Sue faction which can do absolutely no wrong and is everything that was wrong with the original, just turned up to 11.

Much of the story is literally copying and pasting with some names changed.

It's a real pity. It was a good concept, and it had fun bits. But, there were too many people who refused to stop picking sides, to the point of insanity.

Ah, well. Humans are humans, I guess.

He has added a group/faction that seems to have come from an alternate-Dune setting, too. No, it doesn't make the story better.

Wasn't there a couple of anime character inserts shoehorned in on top of the rest of that mess?

Seem to remember Yuki Nagato randomly showing up in the 2 chapters i managed to read before dropping it.

Poorly-worded on my part. Yeah, there’s info on the launchers, but nothing on the ammunition, which is the important half of the equation. Without the ammo, the launchers are less than useless because they take up an extra half-ton of space.
Well equipping a MEch with such a launcher if you don't have the special ammunition is a bad idea, but having the schematics and working examples of the launcher would be somewhat useful for reverse engineering the ammo, even if they don't have any other information on the ammo.

Probably not enough useful for them to spend effort on it instead of the dozen other stuff they need, but still...

Okay now I really want a link to this.

Streaks are really not that great improvement over conventional SRMs and can't use infernos (and other specialty ammo), while ER ML and LB-5X are great addition to the arsenals, so they are the more worthwhile use of the limited resources CAC has in the research field

Don’t do too much assuming about Streak technology. Canonically, it is one of the more useless items out there, but then in canon, Autocannon are pretty awful, too.

Honestly I always assumed that Streak missiles had the ability to basically focus on one particular part of the mech kinda the called shot ability in the HBS game

I like Stream SRMs for striking hard at weakened CTs but Streak LRMs are absolute garbage, at least in MW5. Even then, SRM ART IV are better than Streak for sheer punch power and the ability to target limbs.

Honestly i never understood why Streaks are considered useless, the consistency/reliability they add really can't be underestimated. You get a lock, you get a hit.

Sure it matters less for higher skilled pilots, but for rookie and more average pilots? when given a Streak SRM brawler suddenly they are hitting nearly every turn rather than missing with half their weapons, making them much more of a threat (admittedly they are incapable of using specialized ammunition, but thats likely for balance reasons due to the fact that a Streak SRM loaded with inferno's would be kind of broken).
