Trump Investigations Thread

I mean...they've already lost a LOT of the people who's money is in those businesses. It's no surprise that the businesses would follow suit.

New York city is actually in a pretty bad place.

The cities business culture the thing that makes it money, is rendered irrelevent by telecomunications technology. Its cheaper for both businesess and people to do office work from home. For more and more businesses as time passes ruralization is just the thing that makes sense.

New york has every chance of entering a downward spiral, and when the market finally accepts that all of the property there is over priced....its going to be a nasty correction one that might just turn it into another detroit. Which honestly might be the fate of most of americas cities.

Likely Democrat cities who are the ones that usually force the issue.

It absolutely boggles my mind how anyone can still support Trump, especially through all of this. For all the talk of "draining the swamp", god damn. Trump IS the swamp. Biden isn't great either but holy shit Trump is on another level.

It makes me even more sad because I used to be a very solid liberal. Voted Democrat down the board, every time. I'm now less inclined to do so but probably will anyway, only because Republicans can't give me a reasonable candidate. Not Trump. Not DeSantis. Find someone a bit more moderate and i'm potentially down for the first time... but, no.

Not sure if trolling or just dumb.

Neither?

Biden sucks. Trump is worse. I'll gladly just vote against Trump. I wish there were two better options, but looks like that we got.

Trump didn't serial molest his own daughter, have a wife commit suicide and try to take her kids with her just to keep them from dear old dad, nor did Trump conspire with a hostile foreign power to essentially overthrow the US Government.

What has Trump done that makes him worse than Biden?
I'm trying as hard as I can and I literally can't think of a thing.

By every objective measure the country was better off with Trump than Biden.

And the sheer amount of out in the open corruption in the Biden administration is... mind boggling.

Edit: Just the border stuff alone is insane and borderline treasonous. Biden ordering ICE to cut and lift up barriers so illegals can enter, plus flying them all over the country and not keeping any records on them.

There are probably hidden terror cells in every major city now just waiting for a war to start up or something.

Plus the gang, drug, and trafficking stuff that has absolutely exploded.

Its likely that were going to have a Trump Biden rematch and honestly its pretty possible for Trump to win that one.

I don't think Trump has a chance.

He has more of a chance than anyone else.

But they will just cheat again.

What have they done to fix any of the stuff shown in the last few elections? Who's been held accountable?

No one. And they are charging the people questioning stuff with crimes. Or freezing their bank accounts. Or charging their lawyers. It's absolutely insane.

And even if Trump beats whatever fraud and wins... at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they killed him.

And at that point, God help us, stuff better get interesting. If the Right or anyone sane in America just rolls over and claims we just need to vote harder or whatever, they’re deluding themselves. As at that point it’s over.

The American Republic is dead at that point-as opposed to being on life support- and any claims otherwise are just blind foolishness.

Ok that takes the short term view of things.

Bad establishments create their own opasition and the guys running the west right now? These are not great minds at all its going to be a fucking painful process because inertia is a hell of a drug but I look at them and already see the germinating seeds of their destruction.

incorrect. The prosecutor wasn't objecting. The judge was stepping in before an objection was made. not a common thing at all. Bluntly between that and how the judge reacted when the motion for a mistrial was put forth it really shows how Biased he has been. Reacting like he did to it makes it seem like it actually has teeth to it. This is just gonna be red meat to the Trump base and be taken as further evidence of how the justice system is breaking it's norms just to get the orange man. not good for maintaining the legitimacy of the court. I don't think many big businesses are gonna want to stay in NYC after this. or real estate investors. or banks.
You seem to be forgetting: this is a civil bench trial, not a criminal jury trial.

In a bench trial the Judge is both the referee in charge of ensuring fairness for both sides and the jury (of one) which has to render a decision based on the facts presented. The Judge in a civil bench trial can pre-empt both sides in ways which won't happen in a jury trial because;
- as the jury, he's trying the facts of the case in ways which, according to the 7th Amendment of the US Constitution, can not be appealed
- as the jury, he has the final say on what is and isn't relevant testimony and evidence

In a bench trial a motion for a mistrial is also almost never granted because mistrials almost always result in a reset and restart with "let's try this again with the same judge".

You are also quite correct in that the antics on Trump's side is all red meat to the Trump base. Trump and Co. already lost on the financial fraud accusation part of the case in a pre-trial summary judgement.

This is the "Exactly how much fraud was committed?" and the "What's the monetary part of the penalty for said fraud?" part of the case. In order to appeal the summary judgement Trump and Co. or a bonding company has to post the monetary part plus interest as part of the appeal.

NYAG Letitia James said "$250m sounds about right" when the case was filed. Michael Cohen - Trump's former fixer - thinks the amount will be at least $600m.

I don't know about you, but if I had that kind of cash I sure as hell wouldn't post any of it on behalf of someone who is trying to appeal a summary judgement against them for financial fraud. That would go double when said someone also has a long history of getting sued by people who he owed money to but didn't pay.

I'll trust a homeless bum who says "Can I borrow $50?" before I'll trust Trump with a single penny. The bum's probably going to repay you - at least in part - if he can. Trump will stiff you if he thinks he can get away with it.

The open corruption is a big one. It's absolute insanity.

The "strong man" authoritarian tactics being used, or at least proposed, is unforgivable.

To seal the deal, his utterly embarrassing behavior after losing the election complete with attempts to overthrow the peaceful transition of power.

The man is a lunatic. We can do so much better.

And we've had many a rant in this thread about the utterly inexcusable horseshit of the Mara Lago valuation at the core of that.
The rants are also all moot because there aren't a whole lot of people with enough cash laying around in their couch cushions to buy Mar-a-Lago for the $1bn-$1.5bn (or whatever) price Trump claims it's worth today. The people who do have access to that kind of ready money would find themselves under a very unforgiving microscope if they were to buy it.

See: Elon Musk and his purchase of Twitter.

Nope. I'm thinking troll.

I make no apologies for rather openly disliking Trump. I also know that I'm surrounded by a hornet's nest of Trump supporters.

I don't go out of my way to kick the nest. You do with a side order of "Biden sucks, but ..." BSAB(SVR/D)* tossed in.

* Both Sides Are Bad (So Vote Republican/Democrat) ... an old Farkism.

EDIT: I like to think that I'm open-minded enough to ask if someone is using octal if they say 4+4=10 instead of just flat-out assuming they're wrong.
