The War in Afghanistan

Basically, it comes down to PR.
"Marine starts firefight and kills innocent local" and it leads to then assaulting the airport and doing worse.

Sadly we will never know
Except that's not what the sniper said Zach, they said they had been told the suicide bomber was not arrested to protect an asset, and that they could not take a shot.

It was not said "no, because fire fight might ensue", it was "i don't know why you cannot fire, let check up the chain", and the answer never arrived before the blast.

Stop making excuses for military fuck ups of this scale, admit someone, or multiple someones, effectively murdered those troops and civies by not allowing the sniper to fire.

Whoever made the call needs to be frogmarched in front of Congress and put on a public court martial trial.

You obviously wernt listening.
He said the reason they couldn't arrest was because if thay.
They later saw him and had a shot but got told they couldn't take it.

0:33; 'The asset cannot be compromised'. 1:36 'We asked him if we could shoot.', 1:38 'I don't know.', 1:57 'Plain and simple, we were ignored.', 2:00 'No one was held accountable for our safety.', 2:55 'I opened my eyes to Marines, dead or unconscious, lying around me.', 3:23 'Almost immediately, we started taking fire.', 4:33 'I ask you to please ask me about getting shot at the tower at Abbey gate and how no one want my report post blast. Even NCIS and the FBI failed to interview me.', 4:55"There was an inexcusable lack of accountability and negligence.'

I went through to quote time stamps, to lay out what was said, to prove I did watch it, this being the second full time through, so you can drop that 'You obviously weren't listening' bullshit.

They got told they could not arrest the would-be suicide bomber, because it would compromise an asset, and they would have to wait for him to show in the crowd, and when the suicide bomber did, micromanaging or outright incompetence at someone's level meant the permission to fire was not given.

That is exactly qhat I said...
That the shot is separate from the arrest...

There would not have needed to have been any shot if the arrest had happened instead, is the point.
Yes, but protecting sources is how we get bigger fish and stop more things.
They fucked up with this one for sure

AP is claiming that the Taliban have killed the ISIS 'mastermind' behind the suicide bombing during the evac.

Weird to see the Taliban avenging fallen US soldiers.

We forced the Taliban into cubicles and now have them cleaning up our messes in the area.

The solution after Osama was killed was always just to leave, IMO. Nation building should never have been attempted. It shoulda been: we leave once everyone involved with 9/11 is dead/captured. After Osama died, there was no earthly reason to be there.

Nonsense! There was plenty of reason to stay! Like the stock holders in military industrial firms and the contracts of said military industrial firms! And the paychecks of the lobbyists! And the kick backs to politicians via campaign donations!

How selfish of you not to think of the campaign donations!

As @StormEagle points out, also by the MIC's greed, and Bush's stupid vengeance for his dad.
No, the real reason we stayed was Bagram's strategic position threatening the Russian and CCP interiors, it was about an hour's flight time from areas that usually were hard to reach quickly for US aircraft.

B-52's at Bagram wasn't just a message to the Taliban or ISIS.

I don't think they particularly care about dead American soldiers. They probably care more about the 100 dead Afghans in that explosion. But what they care about more is that the Islamic State are Muslim heretics who keep causing trouble. So they'd kill him.

The Taliban probably care more about ISIS being the main rival to Taliban power in Afghanistan then any of the additional corpses added to the pile in the long history of Afghan Civil Conflict by just one bombing.

Avenging dead or rubbing it in the Imperialists faces is just bonus points.

Mostly laughable position due to having to rely in Russian/Chinese allies for a supply corridor and overflight rights. If you can count on Pakistan to go along (you can't), just place the planes right there.

Hey, in the end that's one more threat we don't have to deal with
Are you actually serious? Goddamn, but the US army has good brainwashing if so. You need Jesus. That's how far gone that statement is: an atheist is telling you to please, please, get some religion in your life if you think murdering tens of millions would be okay.
