The War in Afghanistan

Honestly the smart move would be to get the people we want out via unblocking the money supply and then the second we confirm we have everyone out snap it shut again and laugh at the dumb terrorists

their going to die.

The Biden adminstration said everyone who wanted to leave has left, thats them saying that anyone who didnt get out in time wanted to stay and that they will wash their hands of them. Those people are dead, they will be killed and Biden is going to hope to god it all blows away in 2022 and 2024.

The smart move would be to first have an administration that is respected (as in not considered a smart choice to fuck with) rather than liked (as in shedding money to anyone who either whines or threatens problems for it) in the third world.
Then threaten grave consequences upon both Taliban and Pakistan if problems continue.
Then see the behavior or Taliban improve in mysterious circumstances.
What I'm hearing it's money. Supposedly the Taliban have been cut from the international banking system, and it's previous sources of funding(IMF, World Bank and the US Government), with the result being they are fast running out of money. This hostage situation seems to be "restore our access to money and we'll let these Americans go".
Yeah, Newsweek Poland is now talking about it too. They too think its about money, either from State Department or the airline and NGO. They are also reporting the negotiations with State Department broke down, and that there are 142 Americans among the waiting passengers.

September 11 is coming soon too.

No this would be a dumb move not a smart move. First as Zach said the Taliban would try to mitigate that by taking the money out of western banks and putting them up with the Chinese maybe. Second doing that will fuck your credibility and will make people trust you less. Honor and integrity weren’t made just because people were too dumb to see the benefits of lying for an advantage, it was done so that you are less likely to be lied to yourself. If you decide to make an agreement you should stick to it, if you don’t want to stick to it don’t make it.

Counterpoint - the milk is already spilled, no need to worry about spilling the milk. Honorable dealings require both sides to uphold them. Meanwhile, the Taliban are about as untrustworthy as they go, most recently, well, the whole talk about not killing people for past cooperation with the west and not obstructing evacuation.
Nope, in this situation it is perfectly appropriate to pull out every trick in the book and then get a good book for some more tricks. Of course good tricks would be better than stupid tricks that will be recognized easily.

Seems this is the end of the road for the Panjshir resistance, and resistance to the Taliban with any remotely realistic prospect for success or even medium-term survival as a whole, for the foreseeable future.

Before it went private, I heard rumblings on the Afghanistan subreddit that their morale collapsed after Massoud and Saleh failed to find any outside source of support (including, but not limited to, the Americans). Unfortunately believable, however disappointing, given how quick the Biden admin's been to try to buddy up with the Taliban after that disastrous evac, not that that's stopped the 'Ban from declaring China their BFF anyway.

As for that new hostage crisis unfolding in Mazar-i Sharif, I have a 99% expectation that, unless they get all the money they could ever want & then some, the Taliban will use them as props for their own 9/11 celebration just to rub extra salt in the USA's wound. Only 'positive' out of that will be that it'll kill Biden's efforts to pretend the crisis is over and he can move on like it's nothing. Even that lowest gov't estimate of 100-200 Americans left behind makes this crisis at least twice as bad (at best) as the Iranian one in 1979 BTW, as that involved 52 hostages.

Welp, what has happened before is happening again.
Aside from Afghan air forces, the Pakistan Air Force also began reportedly flying limited missions inside Afghanistan against the Northern Alliance in 2001. While ISI supplied the Taliban with equipment and supplies, PAF Nanchang A-5C ground attack jets of the 16th and 26th Squadrons flew strike missions.

I have a video of ISIS executing American Allies (one of which was a US Citizen) right here. The Taliban originally had captured these men using the list of Americans trapped in Afghanistan and due to promising not to kill them, handed them over to ISIS. Be warned, the video is very graphic and disturbing.

>be afghan
>haven’t seen father in years because he’s held in detention for being neighbors with someone loosely associated with Taliban
>mother died in US ops raid based on false intel
>best friend shot by solider for being in the wrong place at the wrong time
>who's that black guy on the memorial?
>he was killed by police brutality, we have the worst police state in the world, you should stand in solidarity with us against hate
No wonder the taliban had supporters
