The European Unions High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in an opinion piece called upon European Navies to patrol the Taiwan Straights in order to guarantee peace as well as pointing out in the opinion article how important Taiwan is to Europe economically, commercially and technologically.

In response that Russian lady Maria Zakharova called upon the Chinese Navy to patrol the English Channel.

Republican Governor of Virginia Glenn Youngkin visited Taiwan and met with its President.

This visit took place on Day One of the Governors first International Trade Mission. He oversaw the opening of an economic development office in Taipei. Virginia has similar offices in Germany, Japan and South Korea and trade between the state and Taiwan amounts to almost two billion dollars.

Bold Prediction: If the opposition wins the Presidential election in Paraguay this evening, Taiwan will lose another ally which will almost certainly shut them out in South America.

If that happens I HOPE TAIWAN BLOCKS PARAGAY like YOU BLOCKED ME FOREVER!!!

Actually no I don't. I hope they can still be friends in spite of the change of diplomatic status. Taiwan may need that expertise Paraguay (failed to) learn the hard way through the War of the Triple Alliance of how to fight off an opponent that outnumbers you like ten to one.

The KMT put Tsai on full-blast by blaming her administration's foreign policy blunders of causing nine "friends" dumping Taiwan since she's been in office:
*Sao Tome Principe (2016)
*Panama (2017): One year after she visited them in 2016. This ended 105 years of friendship.
*El Salvador (2018)
*Dominican Republic (2018): Polling survey showed 74% of Dominicans called for the reinstatement of diplomatic relations.
*Burkina Faso (2018)
*Solomon Islands (2019)
*Kiribati (2019)
*Nicaragua (2021)
*Honduras (2023)
*Likely Paraguay if Alegre wins the Paraguayan Presidential election this evening (2023)
I'm going to add Paraguay to this list just in case.

After the US Congress' China Committee wargames Congressional leaders are stating they are working on reducing the significant $19 billion backlog of arms sales to Taiwan that they have made since 2019.

This includes 66 F-16 Fighter Jets, components to refurbish and update their Patriot SAM systems, Stinger MANPADs, heavyweight torpedoes, Harpoon antiship missiles and communications and reconnaissance equipment as well as increasing production of long range anti-ship missiles so Taiwan and the United States can have expanded inventories.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen met with VA Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) during his international trade mission to Taiwan on April 24th, 2023.

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen at the Presidential Office Building in Taipei.

Latest chaos as Taiwan states they know America plans to destroy their semiconductor fabrication plants if they're ever going to be captured by China, and will fight against said plans being carried out.

To be honest, if these plants fall into West Taiwanese hands, then the country itself would already be lost far before this point. At that point, it'd be denying the enemy a strategic resource.

The original article it linked to stated it was a theory proposes in some defense journal and then repeated by Seth Moulton, a Democratic Senator.

Asia Financial said:
"[China] must absolutely believe Taiwan's semiconductor industry would be destroyed in the event of an invasion," they wrote.

"An automatic mechanism might be designed, which would be triggered once an invasion was confirmed. In addition, Taiwan's leaders could make it known now they will not allow these industries to fall into the hands of an adversary."

So not an official US plan but a credible threat to be part of a series of other measures to deter Chinese aggression against Taiwan.
