Star Wars Star Wars Discussion Thread - LET THE PAST D-! Oh, wait, nevermind

Now I'm glad I never bothered reading the Books after that point. Mind you I was somewhat aware of the events since I kept tabs on the timeline but still

Don't get me wrong. There was a lot of good stuff after that. Chewies death was epic. Lukes new jedi are really cool. The vong make interesting new villains. There is a bunch of great character and worldbuilding stuff.

But, to me personally, the tone just felt bleaker and more depressing.

I was fine with them overcoming adversity and having their happy ending after decades of struggle.

Oh. I remember exactly when I decided to stop reading the new books.

When I found out Jacen became a sith lord and killed mara jade. That was it for me.

If other people like that stuff more power to them. I think darth caedus became pretty popular (and the basis of kylo ren) but that was a bit to far for me.

I personally disagree, but I dont have my Badass Mandos anymore. Besides that ST is not that bad. It is better then the Ewok series and the Holiday special. SO it isnt the Worst.

Though the writer of Aftermath deserves to be stabbed, as I could write a better SW book then him..

Both of those where not mainline movies and were generally obscure/ignored. They also didn't ruin the OT or the main characters. So I'd very firmly disagree that the ST isn't 'that bad'.

I was making more of a joke, There are plenty of stories in Legends that are definently worse then the ST. There are plenty that are dfinently better, that is my point

Really? Point out the ones that utterly assassinated the characters of Luke, Han and Leia worse then the ST. Point out the ones that did worse then the ST did at turning the setting into an utter joke.

I am heading to work, but I will give you a list when I can.

And for Han, they really did not have much they could od with him in a movie because of Ford hating the character...

The Truce at Bakura. Let's introduce these new aliens that power their ships with 'life force' from captured people. Also, introduces Luke's first, non-incesty, love interest. None of this was every mentioned again, for good reason.

They still could have done better than having 30 years later be a complete character reset.

Like literally anything would be better.

Having him killed by the first order as he sacrifices himself to protect leia and his kids in the first 5 minutes of the movie would have been more respectful... and thats a terrible idea.

That wasn't anything great but it wasn't horrible. I'd say the st is much worse than that.

10,000 death star destroyers!!!

That don't know how to go up...

I am opretty sure Ford gave no fucks as long as he died.

and the Galaxy gun? The sun crusher? these are better? or the hutts having a protoype death star?

Sure. Those are at least different super weapons.

As opposed to death star mk 3 or 10000 death star destroyers.

And the prototype death star was at the maw research station.

The hutts stole the original plans for the first one and tried to build a cut down second rate version that would just be the laser cannon and nothing else. It failed completely and was destroyed before doing anything.

At least Death star laser equiped SDs make more sense then giant thigns that cant be move easily...

Actually the Ssi-Ruu were mentioned again in the NJO, so your wrong.
They were? I must have forgotten. But the Ssi-Ruu was some of the worst of Star Wars, IMO. I admittedly haven't read it in forever, and don't plan on rereading it, but I remember how bad it was.

I don't recall Luke having a serious love interest in the Truce of Bakura?

Ah Gaerial Captison now I remember.

Luke's actually serious love interests were, Mara, Callista, and maybe Akanah. Anything else was a one off character that was never developed further with regards to a romance subplot with Luke. Well Jem too.

Eh I actually like the Ssi-Ruu and the concept of entechment. Soul consuming dinosaurs are fun.

It would be an interesting concept, if they had mentioned souls at all in the movies. If they had made it all force weirdness, that would have worked too. But they didn't (from what I remember), and I remember hating that book.
"life essences".

"luminous beings we are not this crude matter"

"One who has returned from the netherworld of the force"

The existence of a non physical soul or essence is expressed clearly in the movies.
