Time for another detour into unintentionally hilarious Star Wars news.
First I came across this story:

And it led me to this:

Here is the money shot for it all:

And there you have it, from a member of the Lucasfilm story group himself: It's all fake, you can choose suits your fancy. Time to work more on that Star Wars fanfiction I was thinking about! I can just accept whatever I want to make it work, a man in charge of constructing Star wars canon said so!

I mean, sure I like the willingness to give fans the call to make.

It honestly kind of shows a lack of confidence and respect in your own project. If you can't defend your own continuity, if you can't say "it works really well, flows and is compelling" and believe that, then why the heck even bother?

The story group I thought was supposed to create a coherent full universe-a good "Secondary World", yet this seems to indicate the storygroup doesn't give a shit.

Given that the directors and movie writers, don't care at all about maintaining the "one canon".

I imagine the story group people, eventually get to a point where they don't care at all either.

I mean, they spent a lot of effort trying to build up the world after TFA only for Rian Johnson to shit on most of it and JJ to shit on the rest in his attempts to spite Johnson. When everything from high level stuff like fleshing out how the hell the New Republic is supposed to work all the day down to base assumptions like Palpatine definitely being dead and gone are thrown out...

Yeah, if I was them I'd have stopped caring at this point too.

No, it really can’t. You can fix the EU, you can retcon like mad. You can’t in-release Ep7-9. Even if you wanted to Carrie Fisher is dead. There was one window of opportunity to show what the OT trilogy did after RotJ and she yeeted that shit straight into the sun
I wouldn't be so sure. Of course, that would mean announcing 7-9 are non canon.

Episode 10.

The new actor playing Luke wakes up on endor after partying to hard.

"What a terrible nonsensical dream. I'm glad none of it was real." Looks at camera. Winks.

Half the Fandom would rejoice and the half that thinks tlj is a masterpiece explode into a Twitter fueled rage.

You could only do that after Mark Hammill died. If you called do over on the whole thing while he was still alive I think a fair chunk of the half that would otherwise rejoice would be pissed that they're screwing him out of it and recasting.

On the other hand I would laugh with malicious glee if Ep 10 had 7-9 as a dark vision held by Master Skywalker, before a smash cut to him talking to Knight Solo about it while his padawan Rey is sitting nearby. That'd just be... perfection.

So as far the Story Group and the Canon brouhaha goes.

From what I have read it wasn't the head of the Story Group, or some official "due whatever" proclamation.

So much as it was a member, basically saying "eh whatever like what you like, if you dislike the current canon cool".

The issue here, is that at least one Story Group member is saying "I don't have enough confidence in my project to tell you how great it is."

Its like a restaurant saying, "if you like us cool, if you like our competitor that's cool too, if you like both great, if you want to make your own food-cool for you."

It betrays a lack of confidence in your work, your product.

If he really had confidence in it, he should have been able to say "The old Canon isn't near as cohesive, any original fanfic you do won't ever be as good, current canon is wear its at".

But he didn't. And he can't.

Which illustrates two things-a lack of power, the Story Group doesn't actually matter; and secondly they don't have enough pride or respect for the canon they are supposed to be curating to sell it with any sort of gusto, sincerity, or the slightest bit of energy.

Which goes without saying, does not look well on current canon.
