The problem with Prigozhin wasn't that he picked up a fight with Gerasimov. It was that he picked a fight with Shoigu. When Yeltsin decided 'third time was the charm' and picked yet another former chekist for a Prime Minister, that largely unknown guy had to get elected, in order to get political credentials to join in the race for becoming Yeltsin's heir. One of Yeltsin's ministers(the Minister of Emergency Situations) helped with his campaign, lending image and prestige to help him get elected. As you might have guessed, the prospective heir was Vladimir Putin and the Minister of Emergency Situations was Sergei Shoigu. Shoigu has been close to Putin since the late 90s, first as a patron, later as a loyal supporter. It was very unlikely that Putin would pick Prigozhin(an associate of an associate of Putin) over Shoigu.

No one challenges Putin. No one. When you're at the top in Russia, no challenge can go unaccepted unless it can be shown to be utterly ridiculous.

In Russia, if he had accepted Wagner (who challenged Putin by going after Gerasimov) then Putin would be seen as week b/c he would have acted weekly in the face of Wagner's challenge. That's just begging for others to oppose him openly.

That is a reasonable enough explanation on his thought processes.
Although now he is seen as both weak and foolish for letting Gerasimov take out his most effective general and military division.
But looked at from that angle I can now understand why he did it.

I have chosen to place this news in this thread as I have no doubt that, like a rattlesnake shaking its tail before it strikes, people will trot out the Russia election interference stuff more and more as the elections draw near (assuming we have them). And that those same people will try to tie it into the events in Ukraine (well, more so then they already have).

The hardest hitting Republicans plan to stop support.
Which can be a good indicator of why they may claim that. Outside of that though I doubt Russia has the capability at this time

Probably. They seem to be doing the same sort of thing with traditionalist Christian groups because they won’t embrace the woke/LGBTQ mafia nonsense.

With the ‘logic’ they are using being that since Russia is also anti woke/LGBTQ that means that they are either working with the Russians or could be used as a potential fifth column.

But it’s mostly because they can’t easily control us.

If alphabet soup issues are more important than the war Russia launched against Ukraine, and you think Russia is good because they are anti-alphabet soup, your priorities are fucked.

Trannies and groomers are problems, but not on the same scale as Shahed drones or Kalibr missiles hitting Ukrainian cities, ports, and infrastructure.

Except you very much do seem to be in a delusion that alphabet soup issues figure into the discussion around Ukraine being invaded AT ALL, simply because Russia pretends to be 'trad' while having a rape-as-NJP culture among it's soldiers.

The idea you think Russia is anti-woke at all, when it was Stalin's agents who created and launched progressivism into the west, is one of the more successful Soviet psy-ops that is still clinging on in some corners of the US populace.

You want to fight against the woke, but you don't want to risk fighting the woke's master's in Moscow and Beijing.
