Russia-Ukraine War Politics Thread Mk. 2

Haven’t been able to see the full thing yet, but from the comments alone one gets the impression Zelenskyy handled himself well whilst Lex even looked a little foolish.
He certainly made himself look like a "give peace a chance at any cost" virtue signaler.
And his suggestion about getting India and Saudi Arabia to be security guarantors for Ukraine was downright ridiculous. Come on, why not count on a sternly worded letter from the UN while at it...

Zelensky was like I will gladly come to Texas and have BBQ with you and Joe, long as Putin pays.
Dude is a comedian, but knows what his people need.

Probably one of the best interviews with a world leader right now. Lex may not be the best but he is doing something more people should

Yep, this interview was an unambiguous win for Zelensky.

Though seen some UA/NAFO types upset that Zelensky wasn't more harsh on Friedman's naivety, which seem counterproductive.

Because they want him to own the Russian lovers!!!?!?!?!

I had my doubts sometimes, but I had a sneaking suspicion Trump was not going to throw Ukraine to the wolves. Note the wording of the tweet doesn’t even do the “both sides reee” attitude of a lot of righty talking heads.

In Trump’s eyes, this whole mess is Russia’s mistake and fault, not Ukraine’s.

As i see it, Trump may want to make some sort of deal that may or may not be good, especially if Moscow would throw some good bullshit at him.
But then again, both Trump and Moscow care a lot about appearances of strength in this sort of stuff, and that i expected to be the most likely conflict point between them. That is, both Trump and Kremlin really want to appear as the side that got the better side of a deal in this, Kremlin in particular wants a solid victory to justify the price it paid for the "adventure", possibly one so clear that it is beyond the point where both sides could claim success, and those are incompatible, colliding imperatives.
And even his enemies agree that Trump does not like backing down in such scenarios.

This was always a proxy war between USA and Russia "to the last ukranian life". What Ukraine thinks is kinda irrelevant there.

Russia's great failure is in discovering that they have over 99.9% military graft. Leaving what should have been a quick victory to a long drawn out stalemate.

If Russia was not such a shithole over centuries with all the implications of it, it would have been a lot more popular in the region to begin with, and it would also not act in the way it does.
Yet it is, and Ukrainians, being in its "sphere of influence" both before and after the fall of Soviet Union, have first hand knowledge of that situation.
If Ukrainians thought it's not a bad thing to be there, they would have been in as much of a "fighting mood" as Afghans were in 2021.

It started like that, now it is China/USA proxy war to the last ukrainian/soviet.

Yup.They should either do not attack at all,or mobilize all their strenght from the start, when they still had 100% tanks and elite units.

They didn't have strength to mobilize at the start. their tanks were nonfunctional as the generals in charge of the factory were stealing the funds and making fake show tanks. Their rations didn't exist, as generals stole the money. Their military was ghosts who existed to take paychecks and funnel it into general pockets. bullets missing, clothes missing, etc etc etc.
at every level they had massive amount of graft. leaving them with a threadbare army that existed mostly for parades. they have been recruiting / building throughout the war

It was working as Putin and the KGB intended. Corruption equals leverage. Unfortunately for them Ukraine called their bluff and decided to raise the Sitch Banners against the Soviets once again. Fuck Russia. We should have gone in and finished the job in 91
