Now for modern history, Gavrilo Princip. His murder of Franz Ferdinand was not just a trigger for the war. Ferdinand was a leader of the peace party in the Empire, and also supported the Trialist reform of the Monarchy. He was basically the last and best hope Monarchy had of survival.

Princip and Franz Ferdinand were just symptoms, I'd send it after that moron Kaiser Wilhelm and the other fools that gave Austria-Hungary the blank check.
Actually, killing off Franz Joseph and the Hungarian bigwigs and forcing that little Frankenstein's Monster of a country might fix a lot of central European problems.
Bismarck will obviously have to be out of the picture, but Germany and Russia can just take the Slavic and German leftovers for themselves, leaving a weakened Hungary.

If you want to remove real causes of World War I, again, the best choice would be eliminating Christopher Columbus (and/or Ferdinand and Isabella) and thus delaying European colonial adventures. Otherwise, I do not really see any way to stop it.
That being said, killing Franz Joseph and Hungarian politicians might solve some of the issues. But destroying Austria-Hungary as such would not. Russia would be far worse of an overlord to Slavic peoples than Austria-Hungary ever was, and more powerful Germany, even without Austria-Hungary as an ally, might worry France and Russia enough that war would start anyway - except with Entente attack this time.
And as I said, Franz Ferdinand was the most important individual in the peace party within the Austria-Hungary, and was also very much loved by the people. Without his death, 1) Franz Joseph would have no personal reason to go to war, 2) peace party would have a powerful backer, making it almost impossible for the Emperor to be pressured into war, and 3) there would be no emotional backlash within the Empire that very much sidelined the peace party. You know how US public started supporting foreign interventionism after 9/11? Well, Franz Ferdinand's murder was far worse in terms of emotional impact on public opinion.

TV and other mass media damage society in all sorts of ways, IMHO, and video-based news causes more of an emotional reaction.
