Religion and theology thread

Pope Francis has died on Easter Monday aged 88

I figured major news like this may warrant it's own thread.

But I've never been a fan of mega threads.

Vox Day has an opinion: Fake Pope Dies - Vox Popoli

Fake Pope Francis went to what one can only presume was his infernal reward this morning, thereby presenting the genuine Christians in the Catholic Church another chance to clean their house of the post-Vatican II diableristes. I'm not optimistic in this regard; neither am I judgmental as the Southern Baptists and most of the Protestant denominations are just as converged and very nearly as bad, if not worse.

Perhaps only now can we truly understand the wisdom of Jesus Christ declaring that he is wherever two or three are gathered together in his name. Because it is now obvious that there is no human organization on this Earth that is immune to corruption and convergence.

I understand all the various theological arguments in defense of this particular organization or that particular organization as the One True Church. But regardless of how convincing, or unconvincing I might find them, I just haven't seen any sign that any of the various Christian organizations have successfully policed themselves to remain uncompromised and true to its own foundational principles, let alone the basic principles set down by Jesus Christ.

If people are interested, the two favorites are both Francis supporters. One (Luis) is the leader of the progressives. No one else is at or above 10%

I'm not betting on the Catholic Church actually moving back towards Christian beliefs. Ever since the recently deceased Pope said, "You don't have to got through Jesus to get to heaven."

I'm prayerfull that it happens, but not hopeful.
I would pray, too.I hope for normal pope.

Correct me if wrong.
but don't catholics have a vote for the higher ranks in the church on who is the next pope?
And francis had time to promote heretics like him into the positions that have a vote.

the cardinals* go into a conclave and vote for the pope, usually amongst themselves.

*some exceptions apply.

So, exactly what I said then?
Cardinals being a high ranking position, yes?
And the pope has enormous influence on who gets promoted to Cardinal?

edit: yea, just a quick check on wokepedia
A cardinal (Latin: Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae cardinalis, lit. 'cardinal of the Holy Roman Church') is a senior member of the clergy of the Catholic Church. As titular members of the clergy of the Diocese of Rome, they serve as advisors to the pope, who is the bishop of Rome. Cardinals are chosen and formally created by the pope, and typically hold the title for life. Collectively, they constitute the College of Cardinals.
so the (still alive) people who appointed pope francis + people appointed by pope francis are the ones voting for francis' successor.

I then searched for how many cardinals are there in 2025 (252) and how many cardinals were appointed by francis (163).
Meaning 64.7% of the cardinals voting for francis' successor were appointed by francis.

the 1/3rd of the cardinals not appointed by francis, are the ones who voted francis into power in the first place.

Not all of them can vote. It is limited to Cardinals who are under 80 at the time of the pope's death.

It could be someone else. Popes have been selected that were not on anyone's radar.
