The US is leaving, the EU is imploding, and China is exploding. May we all live in interesting times I guess.

91.59% of the Chinese population is Han. I wonder what's going to happen to all the non-Han groups in the coming years.

*glances sideways at Uighurs*
What happened historically, they will be either sinofied or eliminated.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anything that supports the idea that China isn't "down for the count". If anything, total economic collapse is inevitable for that country. Maybe I'm just not seeing what Aaron Fox sees in China; then again, the man is a capital A Authoritarian, so I'm pretty sure he just admires how oppressive the Chinese government is, and ignores everything else.

Here's the latest two:

Coronavirus Hits Remittances:

Part and parcel of the coronavirus epidemic is a general breakdown of international connections of all types. This impacts finance and manufacturing and transport and industrial commodities and on and on and on.

US COVID Testing Data, May 17:

Today’s U.S. coronavirus case update is full of good, and bad, news.

First the good. American testing capacity continues to increase, having reached a sustainable level in excess of 300,000 per day. Having being stuck below 200,000 until very recently, it is good to see the United States finally breaking through several bottlenecks.

Watched it. Pretty disappointed by how much of the kool-aid he was drinking in the first third of the thing. It has me questioning how reliable he is on a lot of other stuff, but we'll see how his predictions turn out in the long run.
Meh, he is a geopolitics guy, not a medical guy, so it makes sense he would defer and assume the experts are right.

It's an easy enough trap to fall into, but I generally expect people of his level of professional caliber to be at least as capable as I am of seeing through establishment BS.

You'd think he'd at least have heard of how incompetent Neill Ferguson (sp?) is by now.

You have to remember he has to tow the line somewhat, if he was contrarian on everything he would be blacklisted.

Duterte last I checked wants wider powers....I may have found my college school mates cringe for their desire to protest against him during his first year, but I do fear a possible martial law that will last longer than corona

My dad, was nice enough to pay to give aide to people and have all our employees on paid "vacation" along with food being given to them

Problem is, I worry about there not being more food being produced to buy

Especially given that we don't know how long this will last
That is strange. Last I checked, Duterte wanted to decentralize power in a federal system. That will mean less power for the central government/Imperial Manila. He also negotiated greater autonomy for the BARMM as a sort of prototype for federalism. Yellows/Leftists keep saying that he wants to hold onto power as Prime Minister, but he hasn't shown any indication that he wanted to run for a second term.

Memory's kinda wrong then and I think the "wider powers" was something I heard sometime mid-Corona a few weeks or months back

Though that may have been said by said yellows/leftists on the news or them misquoting him or something

Yeah. The anti reformists likes to paint false narrative. They are the ones who don't want to decentralized the Philippines and scrap the 60/40 restrictions for foreign investors. They want the oligarchs to monopolize the country. And Imperial Manila in control of everything.

And they want the government to be constantly in-charge of things like Urban Planning and such with guys graduating from even their SJWized colleges being the ones handling that stuff

I know this is pretty off-topic from the thread topic

But I will say that it looks like lots of countries have a case of “Bourgeoisie Socialism”

It is the Filipino oligarchs who don't want competition. Duterte wanted to decentralize power in a federal system. And people are now pushing for constitutional reform to scrap the 60/40 restrictions in the constitution. Duterte succeeded with giving autonomy to BARMM. People are counting on federalizing the Philippines and taking the power away from Imperial Manila.
Duterte has two more years. We'll see what happens.
Not everything is about the SJWs.

For those of us not familiar with the situation there, perhaps you could expound and expand on this a bit?

The Philippines is a highly centralized republic with a lot of protectionist policies and oligarchal lobbies. It is extremely hard to invest there if you're a foreigner. All businesses must have a Filipino own 60% of it. Federalism and an open economy is the only way for the Philippines to develop.

The Philippines actually was the second biggest economy in Asia in the early 20th Century as an American colony, what with it being open to American investment and land ownership and having total access to American markets.

Then the leadership decided to go full protectionist and thus screw investment over. Then again we're also seeing the collapse of the 'trade or else' policy that the US had enforced for decades...

Well it was good while it lasted. 30 years to grow your economy where your not required to pay or even be respectful to the people who make it happen is a pretty good deal. If you wasted that time well sorry.
