Experience has taught me not to expect horrible government policies and overreach to ever be seriously reversed if it means some parts of DC may lose money or power. And now the ballot box is...iffy at best.

I see some signs things will turn around, but I am not naive enough to believe that if I have a kid, I will be able to do the same things my parents did with me, with them.

The post-9/11 restrictions/safety theater on air travel and airport operations are never going away (for one thing, TSA wouldn't have a job if that happened), there will probably be fools who wear masks everywhere the rest of their lives even if the powers in DC eventually give up on keeping the Wu Flu shit going forever, and the lives lost/wasted/ruined in last few decades, at the behest of the elites who do not care for the plebs, will not be brought back or fixed.

I learned long ago what it meant to have to face and deal with terminal declines, I'm mental preparing myself for the same thing to happen to this nation.

I'll be happy if I'm wrong, and frankly I pray I am; however I cannot prepare and plan as if things are going to turn around.

You are younger then most kf those in power.
You will see life get better once they pass.

But, you always make the life of your children better then you had it if possible, or as good as. Can't go to airport? Go hiking on trails and to a mountain. So on so forth.

Yes, and Asian countries are not the US, nor have the US Constitution that garuantees their rights and freedoms.

You said we'd 'recover', but what you really mean is 'we'll submit' and accept the overreaches that have happened while lying to ourselves about it being 'not that bad'.

After all, you have no choice about it as a member of the military, why should civies have freedoms and choices you do not.

I only submit to what I am forced to submit too. I still have plenty of rights gifted to me by the constitution and UCMJ.

And how many freedoms will be forever lost to gain that 'strength'? You seem to care more about being strong, than about being free.

No strength is worth the loss of freedom we are seeing now and have been seeing since 9/11, and I would prefer a weak but free America to a strong but totalitarian America.

Yes, via Hitler being an idiot, doing actual anti-trust work on industry, and actually engaging in infrastructure projects that were worth a damn.

Nukes changed the equation on peer-to-peer war being 'profitable' on the homefront, anti-trust regs are effectively moot even if some people are trying to use them against Big Tech, and the greens tend to fuck over infrastruture projects by forcing years of work in Environmental Impact Statements and court cases to clow down anything they think might harm some piece of the ecosystem.

And now there's the whole 'racial/social justice angle' getting tacked onto a lot of those types of assesments.

The point is that you seem fine with the rights and freedoms of civies being infringed indefinitely and/or forever in the pursuit of safety/strength for the US/our military.

Except our country will never be that if we do what we need too and start local. If states are stricter and stricter on immigration, it will be better. That is how we prevent this.

As for 'giving them the satisfaction' in seeing little way out, I cannot and will not make plans based on 'optimistic outcomes'.

Better to suffer a pleasant surprise and having things be better than expected, than cling to slim or false hopes when there is little reason for hope.

Giving people false hope is the most cruel thing in the world to do, and I have no interest in sugar coating things for 'morale purposes'.
