While a medieval peasant didn't have 24/7 tracking of his ass by his lord, the only freedom he had was to scratch away in the dirt (that didn't even belong to him) to make a minimal living. You are kidding yourself if you think the pre-reneissanance world had more freedom than the modern day west. Yeah there are cameras and shit, that's nothing compared yo the ability of the common man to travel where he want, settle down where he wants, choose any profession he wants, marry who he wants, profess any religious believe that he wants, exert influence on who is lording over him etc. It's not even remotely a contest.

Medieval times were not quite so bad as other posters have pointed out, more vacation time for one thing All of the things you mention has largely been thanks to technology. The actual government structure has increasingly become more restrictive. We can't travel where we want unless we have our papers i:e: permission. We can only settle down where we want after we pay a shit load of money(as opposed to simply traveling to the new world). Most if not all professions require state training and approval. I can only marry a woman if she is the government approved age and a citizen and if i accept she can leave me and take most of my stuff at any time.

My religious beliefs leave me better off undoubtedly, though most discrimination would be avoided only because i'm not christian in this day and age. I may get to exert ''influence'' as you say, but how much? Society in those times would brutally murder our current politicians not just call them names on social media(what the peasants are allowed to call the political class anyway). The medieval lord couldn't do even a fraction of the tyranny done today without losing his head.

Well apparently the liberals in the comments and the writer of this article 'Clara Wang' are either implying that the woman was 'dog whistling' because she stated. 'Why are you afraid to call the police' when the employees were trying to remove her from the store because she wore no mask.

If the store or restaurant has a dress code they have every right to kick you out if you aren't in compliance with it and tell you "don't come back until you are compliant".

"Masks required" constitutes a dress code. Just as you have a right to not wear one they have a right to tell you to be somewhere else when you're not wearing one.

That was just plain idiotic on that restaurant's part unless the health department - which can shut down a restaurant for very petty reasons - told them to do that for table service with an unspoken "or else" tossed in for good measure.
