Is that really a counterpoint if what he's originally arguing for is basically to greenlight a sharp rise in vigilantism?

I mean "it's okay to extrajudicially murder people as long as they're really bad people" isn't going to end at actual pedophiles. You know that, right? Maybe you're a fan of what went on in the Philippines but I'm not.

Your point was people should trust in the law as that will protect those wrongly accused. I agree with this generally. if you trust the law and the systems running the country this is where you will fall.

the counterpoint is if you no longer trust that system you don't trust it to solve the pedophile preying on kids in your neighborhood and you need to figure out a way to make sure that the kids will be safe. I wouldn't advocate for it. but I can see where people who have had their noses rubbed into the fact that they can't rely on the government to solve any problem without making things worse to just start ignoring laws in a similar manner to how people ignore speeding laws or drug laws or any number of other laws.

Well, that wasn't my entire point. My entire point was that additionally if you decide the law isn't enough and take the law into your own hands then you need to accept the consequences that the law will bring onto you. In many civil rights protests, getting arrested en masse is part of the plan.

And extrajudicial killings aren't going to fall only on people who actually deserve it by whatever standard you're using. Innocents will be murdered, or at least people who aren't as bad as they were thought to be. And that's without considering the people who will just murder and use this as an excuse, if the excuse would get them out of trouble.

Like I said, maybe you're a fan of what went on in the Philippines but I'm not. El Salvador proved (unless I'm misinformed) you don't need to be murdering people left and right to do a harsh crackdown (much harsher than the Philippines if I'm not greatly mistaken). Advocating for such a crackdown would be a civil way to move society toward the desired outcome, and probably more productive than murdering random pedos.

correct. if the government cracks down on the pedo shit that would go a long ways to fixing shit. unfortunately the pedo shit is tied up with leftist sacred cows. so the left won't do it and if the right does do it then they will be called bigots and hatemongers. so they aren't likely to do it either. so the problem will get worse and fester. maybe we get surprised. I don't advocate for this sort of thing. I can just see how people would get driven into it. faith in institutions is being squandered. it is hard to build that up. without faith in institutions a lot of bad shit goes down. vigilantism is one aspect of that.
