Is that really a counterpoint if what he's originally arguing for is basically to greenlight a sharp rise in vigilantism?The counter point is the following. if enough people feel that the law protects the criminals and not the average citizen then there is going to be a sharp rise in vigilantism. if the law is viewed as protecting child predators while at the same time treating otherwise normal individuals harshly it erodes confidence in the system. that isn't easy to build up and they have already had a lot of other reasons shoved down their throats on why you cannot count on the government to protect you our have your interests in mind at all.
I mean "it's okay to extrajudicially murder people as long as they're really bad people" isn't going to end at actual pedophiles. You know that, right? Maybe you're a fan of what went on in the Philippines but I'm not.
