High School, College and University Cringe MegaThread

University of Utah reeling from the violence that has erupted due to the invitation of detransitioner Chloe Cole to their campus to speak at an event where again, you have to actively choose to attend.

Terrifying.

I'm going to imagine that only like 1 or 2 students are actually that big of a pussy and the rest are just using it as an excuse to get out of class to maybe catch up on something or just fuck off.

"Yeah, we're against...!" Quietly mumbles to their friends, "what's this about again?"
"I dunno: Just shout something like Alphabet Soup rights and you've got a 75% chance of hitting the mark."
"Right!"

After her Congressional testimony where she had a delightful inability to condemn anti-semitism before Congress, Harvard President Claudine Gay is apparently facing even more scrutiny now as its being alleged she plagiarized significant portions of her PhD Thesis.

The US government has reduced the buying power of the dollar by that much. While wages just did not come close to keeping up.

1973 a year at Harvard was 13 weeks of median family income.

2016ish a year at Harvard was 54 weeks of median family income.

The other difference was college students could work a summer job and make a majority of the money.

That's not due to inflation. Like, don't get me wrong, inflation as we've had it is bad (there's an argument for a slow, low level of inflation being good, but that's a different discussion), but the cause of the rise in cost of higher education is completely different than inflation. Even if we'd had zero inflation between 1973 and now, the cost of college would still have risen pretty much by that much.

There's a few reasons for that, but the main one is that the Federal government made it so that there was simply more money availably to pay for college between Federal grants and Federally backed loans. This might sound like a good thing at first, but what colleges proceeded to do was simply start increases prices to get more money. Further, you also saw with this influx of Federal money, a massive cultural push (spurred by the Federal government again) for people to go to colleges, thereby rapidly increasing demand for entry without there being an immediate increase in the number of colleges and universities or the existing ones being able expand. So you had easy money combined with a demand that outstripped supply and, well... that has led to a MASSIVE increase in the cost of colleges.

It's still all the government's fault, but in this one case, it's not caused by inflation, it was caused by other factors.

University / colleges are scams everywhere if they don't teach something actually useful such as languages and actual sciences. That's why outside of Westeuropa you see everyone going for medicine, engineering and economy of ANY kind, because even mentally they can't afford to waste money on frivolous degrees.

At this point I would say Americans who still want to go to university is to go Europe and not spend a fortune in their own homeland.
Fortunately, quantity-wise there are still some quality universities here without ideologies corrupt much of the teaching.

So spend a lot more to go to a university over seas, when I can go to the tech school and get a degree for cheap and nit worry about too much political BS

There are plenty of decent community colleges in the US. They don't charge you an arm and a leg, and because they're less prestigious and more practical, they are less likely (though far from certain not to) to ram ESG crap down your throat.

"I have seen my mom, a lawyer, desperate for a plumber. I have yet to see a plumber desperate for a lawyer." From the comic strip Frazz.
I'm not even talking trade just small schools in general

This if it is not important for someone to have a good global ranking university or don't need scholarships to get by.

My knowledge of colleges is limited due not only because of search engines. There was one which interested me in Hawaii but the situation with my father was bad already at the time that I dropped it.

That’s actually a foolish saying the plumber will want a lawyer if he is in trouble with the government or wants to sue someone or if his wife is divorcing him. Someone who represents himself in court has a fool for a client.

Still cheaper to go to a community College or a tech ir trade school in the US then going over seas and spending at least a grand flying over not including have to get a student visa etc

It is a saying about how often one is needed by the everyday person.
