Black Mesa is fun. I played the original Half Life almost annually for a while and same with the sequel.

But Black Mesa isn't quite a direct adaption of the classic Half Life though I think it's better then the Source version.

There's lots of videos pointing out the differences between classic and The sixteen year long fan remake Black Mesa but it is a fine game on its own.

But I would recommend playing the original regardless.

The remake replaces a bunch of scientists with women scientists. Because of course it does. Authentic remakes are icky. We live in an eternal present.

Half-life 1 ALWAYS had female scientists. Bigot.

Does it work on a Windows 11 system? Because I am using a new gaming laptop for well...gaming.
And work.

Which is also the reason why I haven't been on the Sietch much lately. That and irl stuff I need to take care of such as the C2 Spanish test I am taking today, reason why I am posting at 6:31 AM (Italian time).

NOTE:
I am yes a native speaker of Spanish and my mother's maternal ancestors and her mother are Galicians but to get a Spanish citizenship requires me to live in Spain for one year consecutively without ever going to vacation outside of it.
So to demonstrate I can actually speak and teach Spanish this is cheaper.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with Windows 11. At least if it's the Steam version.

How many languages can you speak out of curiosity?

Happy 25th Birthday to Half Life.

Valve celebrated with some updates and content releases on Steam... And an hour plus like by documentary or video I guess as well.

Something I'll give a look at later... :p

The debate of female and Jewish representation is ludicrously useless to discuss in my opinion guys and it's not a situation of MK1 or Insomniac Spiderman 2 type of political correctness.

I would suggest a separate thread.

Never played it, but planning on getting the remake though.

I started the series with the sequel.

I still recommend playing both, starting with the original Half Life. The game isn't that old as to be hard to play. One of my Sons was able to play through it with little difficulty despite mostly playing console action games and shooters. It's fairly accessible.

I've been trying to find a video that doesn't stan too hard one way or the other regarding Half Life v. Black Mesa to point out the differences. There was a video I saw ages ago that really detailed it (with a negative tone in regards it to being a remake of Half Life) and was pretty good but I can't find it now and I don't have the time to skim through hour plus long videos to see which one is which. Plus it'd probably be full of spoilers (for a twenty five year old game but still, less is better).

But this one is a pretty good breakdown of the differences between Black Mesa and the original Half Life.

It didn't really cover the AI differences which is the main thing I noticed (beyond the obvious audio/visual changes) when playing Black Mesa. There are engagements with military grunt style enemies. Back in 1998 Half Life was praised for its AI and the action in Black Mesa does feel more like Half Life 2 when fighting the soldiers. In the original Half Life, the enemy soldiers would take cover, use covering fire, use basic squad tactics and flush you out with grenades etc which was nice for 1998. But unlike in Black Mesa (or Half Life 2) they couldn't move AND shoot at the same time. That one difference changes combat a lot as an example.

There were also three or four times where my memory of playing the original Half Life so much actually got me momentarily stuck playing Black Mesa (and in non-puzzle areas as well) despite the often faithful level designs. The improvements made in the visuals and lighting and graphics and detail, as well as subtle changes in the map had me confused and stuck in a spot or two on rare occassions. This might also be due to Black Mesa's fan developers maybe not doing as good a job in detailing the path forward to take as the original game. But that's a minor issue overall and it could just very well be the fact I'm borderline retarded.

Currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 with Nomad start, sided with Stout against the Maelstrom not because of the benefits it might entail but simply because in real life the less of a gang like the Maelstrom the better. Other game I started is Baldur's Gate 3 as Vow of Vengeance, still in act 1 with me being in the Underdark, almost killed all of the goblins in the level before, I have no intention of recruiting Minthara if I have to sacrifice the lives of Tiefling children (again, I applied my real life believe where I could, especially considering since Minthara wants to conduct a massacre so nope). I might get rid of Kagha (which funnily enough in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian it translate he/she/it "shits" if you pronounce it like that) but I heard there is kind of a stealth way to get the grove thing resolved, but frankly the cutscene where she wants to administer her own version of justice makes me want to go for the violent route option. Started System Shock as well with essentially the only thing turned up to level 3 of the enemies, I don't want to get an headache to play this one. I still have to try Trepang2 (a spiritual successor to the first two F.E.A.R. games) and Days Gone. I finished Deus Ex Mankind Divided on "Give Me A Challenge", it lasted longer than a campaign of COD and the choices mattered yes but how they mattered was dissapointing ; Prague is also a nice location for a cyberpunk setting but the degree they implemented it is disappointing, the atmosphere of a near future is much realized in the prequel, Human Revolution; still worth it though, especially how on New Game plus it feels even better to be a cyberwarrior with all the upgrades already available. Could be irrelevant but all of my copies of this games are from gog.com with the exception of Mankind Divided, which I also plan to get the gog.com copy and transfer my save files there.
By the by System Shock I meant the 2023 remake. Sorry for not going for the original but I tried and it is next to impossible for me to get it like the first two original Fallout games.

I wasn't the one triggered by... *checks notes* too many women?
Yeah, that's the problem, too many women. Because when people say "I want an authentic 1998 game remade with modern engine and assets" they actually mean "Fuck women, icky icky ew".
It's ok. The original Half Life still exists as a safe space. Nobody can take that from you. In the future, they really should add trigger warnings if they're going to add some women or black people or something, just to make sure we can minimize the triggering. It's ok. You're safe.

The original System Shock can be pretty rough by today's standards so the remake might be a fairly better option in that regard.

So about that gaming. Uhhh...

Gas Station Simulator just dropped a teaser trailer for their hot new DLC, Tidal Wave.

Now you can manage a gas station on a tropical island.

Pump it up before it's Surfs up... Or something.

So I get this is old, but the more I learn about Far Cry 5, the more questions I have.

At first glance, it's 'Oh, Christians bad'. But then, they were actually correct about what was happening... so yeah. And they win. And they have catchy music (if I was religious, keep your rifle at your side would be my ringtone 100%).

It's possibly the worst attempt at a political hitjob since My Beautiful Laundrette (a leftist attempt to show Thatcherism was bad, that ended up showing how capitalism magically cures racism and homophobia, and that the intelligentsia are lazy commie scum).
