So I get this is old, but the more I learn about Far Cry 5, the more questions I have.

At first glance, it's 'Oh, Christians bad'. But then, they were actually correct about what was happening... so yeah. And they win. And they have catchy music (if I was religious, keep your rifle at your side would be my ringtone 100%).

Traditionally, none of the Far Cry protagonists (or at least, unambiguously 2 and 3, and arguably 1 and 4) are heroes. I think that if you consider Far Cry's history, as a series, its not strange to think that the protagonist of Far Cry 5 isn't really meant to be a hero.

At the least, the situation is meant to be nuanced.

I'd say it was at least partly intended to be a more controversial take on 4's theme - the idea that you coming there to 'fuck shit up' isn't really a good thing. Its one thing to say that someone coming back from the US to their birth country and fucking shit up over a Civil War might not be a good idea, but to suggest than the US government sending police to put down a little rural redneck militia might be a nuanced situation? That's a lot more challenging for many members of "modern audiences."

The original System Shock can be pretty rough by today's standards so the remake might be a fairly better option in that regard.
So @Husky_Khan about that ... the remake's presentation is fantastic but holy cow with only one of the difficulty setting put into maximum (enemies in my case) it is challenging (probably the intention) because you can get effed up by the random zombie-like enemy like it is nothing.
And also I got lost...might to actually have a guide to understand wtf to do next.

Still awesome remake by atmosphere alone, you wouldn't tell it was done in a Unity engine, which scandalous recent proposition aside, is an engine known for being used for mobile games.

If I was a developer of this remake, I would probably say "I will stick to doing remasters thank you".

It's possibly the worst attempt at a political hitjob since My Beautiful Laundrette (a leftist attempt to show Thatcherism was bad, that ended up showing how capitalism magically cures racism and homophobia, and that the intelligentsia are lazy commie scum).

Far Cry 5 is my favorite game of the series together with number 2 because I felt very immersive. As far as I know, the cult in 5 was supposed to be inspired by the likes of Heaven's Gate, Scientology and Jim Jones cult.

Far Cry 1 is a bit difficult to argue you are not a good guy when you are fighting mercs and a corpo who is creating genetically modified monstrous supersoldiers.
Far Cry 2 might more aligned with this reading of the situation.

Wait what?

Far Cry 5 has quite literally nothing to do with Christians. It's about a crazy cult. It just so happens that... the crazy cult was right. Although, they could have still prepped for the apocalypse without all the culty shit...

I think @Abhorsen went with Christian because of the symbol of Eden's gate that is very similar to a cross, despite in my opinion it looks like the one of Scientology.

Fair enough. Really it was unfair of me to say it has nothing to do with Christianity. Eden's Gate is kinda sorta alittle bit Christian-adjacent. At the very least, they use some of the aesthetics of Christianity although that might largely just be cultural more so than anything specifically related to their cult. They utilize Christian churches as places of worship but... that's mostly because they are already pre-existing, so they just co-opted them.

I do think 5 is the best Far Cry. 6 was pretty cool overall, but 5 really nailed the atmosphere.

It is something loosely Christianity based, much like many real cults. Including having their own version of the Bible. Plus there are some comments on how Joseph is making himself to be the messiah, replace the normal crosses in churches, and so on, so, it in summary it is not much more related to Christianity than Islam is, drawing heavily from the general Abrahamic religion pool of concepts and ideas, but being their own thing in it. And it works for them much better than it normally would be expected to because they have "truth serum" like hallucinogenic drugs to aid indoctrination and are willing to use them liberally.

I think the Christianity Lite tends to be more of a cultural thing with these cults. It's familiar. I'm not religious in any way, shape or form. To the point to really being kind of anti-religious, yet I can acknowledge the cultural affect that Christianity has had on me. I don't believe in any of it, but I absolutely have some Christian tradition in my life because it's just generally a part of the culture.

If somebody goes about creating a cult... it really depends on how deliberate they are. Going super alien with it probably won't attract people. Making it something kind of familiar but different? That's the ticket.

Take someone like me. I don't see a cross and thing "that's the cross Jesus died on", I think "religious symbol". It has no meaning to be beyond being a thing used in religion. So... really any religion could throw a cross out there and i'm just going to see it as a familiar symbol of religion, basically how Scientology uses it. Scientology has nothing to do with a cross... yet they use one, because... it's a familiar religious symbol.

On another hand, to me Eden's Gate looks more like a non-political and more functional People's Temple of Jones. I say this because they look very collectivist (but that might be for gameplay purposes since you have three bosses to beat, patrols and whatnot).

How many languages can you speak out of curiosity?
Forgot to reply to you to this actually : so as a native speaker (C2 level) I can express myself in Italian (with a Bolognese/Emilian accent), (Brazilian) Portuguese, (Colombian/Salvadoran) Spanish (this one actually learned from listening to my mom's Colombian and Salvadoran friends) as a non-native speaker (C1 level) I can of course express myself in English and use it frequently since most of my friends and acquaintances are non-Italian speakers, followed this I can hold a convo in French (so I guess B2?), but there is only like two people I talk to it : my French-Neapolitan-Greek friend and her son who is also Afro-French-Carribean (who multiple times she tried to tell me to NOT teach him politically incorrect jokes and failed for six years straight) and can ask the basic concepts of "Hello", "How are you?" "Are you (insert nationality)", "I miss you" and finally "I love you" in Turkish because...well the last three exes of mine were Turkish, the last one being the first lady I presented my mother, considered even moving to her country to work to be close for her because I wanted to re-start our relationship because we had ended it due to the distance. It is the only language that manages to make melanchonic and nostalgic.

I would say collectivist is a correct term for them, especially given there is a good amount of brainwashing going on.

They're kind of a standard nonsensical cult though. The mooks are collectivist while the leaders get to do whatever they want. They get to be individualistic and have strong personalities whole everyone else is supposed to be a mindless drone.

So in a way like Jim Jones.

SonI finally got some time to play some Bayonetta over the weekend.

Damn it, that fixed camera is annoying but the game has other attractions...

So they had things to say about Kiryu allegedly picking up fights with everyone (fair but that's the mechanic of the game) and that the character' shirt looks...cheap. Funny priorities.
