This has been going on for quite some time. I mean just look at the typical politician's ROI. It's totally insane. It's become as memetic as Clinton body count.

Because frankly, there are times when I feel that if these lunatics were alive and operating seventy or eighty years ago, they’d have been among those cheering and shouting “Heil Hitler!” as the SA got purged, as Poland got invaded, and as six million Jews got sent to the camps. Main difference is that things aren’t that bad yet, nor are most of these guys as “hardy” as Germans from the 1930s or ’40s — though given where the world is headed, that may very well change.
