Finland's and Sweden's NATO accession following thread.

Sweden might not happen, fact is the Finns didn't get involved in Turkey's personal business like the Sweeds have and havent soured relations like the Sweeds have based on woke points.

Just getting Finland is honestly a coup and really all we need to completely shut the russians down in the baltics.
Sweden is also necessary to get ASAP to logistically support defending Finland and Baltics and to provide a backbone for NATO to defend Finland from in the means of logistics, supporting critical assets like AWACS, etc... further away from Russian weapon systems' influence.

And also getting Gotland and Öland will also allow NATO to control access to northern half of Baltic Sea + getting Sweden and those islands allows NATO to project power towards Kaliningrad Oblast. When Sweden gets in, Kaliningrad Oblast is fully boxed in from all directions by NATO.

Edit: And Sweden also has significant arms industry producing 4.5 gen Gripens, Global Eye AWACS, state of the art corvettes and subs + lots of land warfare equipment like IFVs and artillery + infantry weaponry like NLAW and Carl Gustavs, etc...

Rumors are that something may move forward around early summer as some of the laws Turkey wanted will be implemented then.

TBH Sweden is more of a "nice to have" than "necessary" with these things.

Well, I suspect it's more like, "we do need Sweden, but having it be formally NATO instead of virtually NATO is less necessary."
I'm going to commit a heresy here and say Sweden is needed for the Grippen for Ukraine, and Ukraine will be joining NATO once it has it's lands back.

Perun did an excellent break down that Grippens road-capable from the get go design, paired with Brit Meteors, would give Ukraine an edge to deal with the Russian zone-CAPs near the front lines that is much better than what they have now.

Nah, with Finland providing a northern staging area for NATO, and the general state of Russian military, the NATO dominance of Baltic is already crushing.

Huge stretch.
a) Sweden can sell things to Ukraine without joining NATO, the politics, money and material availability of the stuff in question are bigger issues, Sweden doesn't exactly have a huge production and support training pipeline for Grippens, nor lots of spare airframes waiting for a buyer.
b) Ukraine won't be joining NATO until the war ends, in which case immediate hurry about dealing with Russian CAP disappears.
c) If Ukraine does join NATO, then F-35 and all the legacy NATO planes, available in vastly greater quantities than Grippen, become an option. Ironically, for reasons of NATO classified materials one of pros of Grippen as things stand, is that it comes without that in standard.

To be quite honest about this. I'm conflicted emotionally I support Finland in and Sweden out to punish those cucks. Even though it's not a real punishment because Finland would be a shield to Sweden and Russia couldn't get to Sweden without going through Finland anyway so for all intents and purposes they already are in NATO.

But logically it makes more sense geopolitically to put Sweden in, and keep Finland out to use as another bloody buffer to castrate the Russians if they decide to poke their nose in. Because I've always said I don't think NATO should expand so much that we border Russia we should have left a buffer region between us and them because NATO is forever and now since Finland is in we are always neighbors with Russia.
That's why I'm annoyed that Russia did it's stupid Ukraine invasion since they pushed Finland into NATO.

The great irony here is that the cucks were contributing the most effort towards getting themselves punished in this way for decades, and the punishment is only happening because they may be sticking by it. Then again, there are some rumors that they will make some concessions to Turkey in summer and that might work.

Nah, legally and practically NATO already had quite a bit of border with Russia, plenty enough for trouble on the incident/covert ops level, and the scare over this sown by usual suspects is way beyond the history of this border.

Militarily, well, NATO has no need for a buffer, this is a meme for the naive, delusional and malicious. Russia has a "need" for a buffer, and if you played grand strategy games a lot you may intuitively understand what kind of "need" that is. Oh the frustration of wanting to expand a bit to optimal empire size in a 4x game, but all the neighbors are in that goddamn blob alliance that will fucking swarm you if you go to war with them. Except for one or two silly neutral minor powers who didn't join yet... you're damn right you will try to landgrab those ASAP, and also try prevent them joining said blob alliance before you manage to get them. For Russian Empire 2.0, "buffer state" is the politically correct term for "glorious near future reconquista by diplomatic, covert or military means, whatever works".
See: Belarus for how much Russia cares about neutrality of buffer states if it has a lot of say about it.

Looks like with the Turkish election out of the way, Erdogan is letting Sweden finally join NATO.

We all know Erdogan wrangled some concessions out of the sweeds for this, and I cant really blame him. You get what you can for your own people.

Still at the end of the day this means the baltics and the black sea are now firmly closed to Russian influance. So the Russian navy is for all practical senses now completely worthless.

Turkey "officially" ratifies Sweden's joining NATO.

Yep, pretty much what I predicted in the "Which country do you think is most likely to turn on the US" thread, Turkey going along to get along like a good little NATO soldier. But still, fuck Erdogan. He's just as bad as Putin if not worse.
