    The 10mm pulse rifles fire APHE rounds though, which were basically causing them to explode violently with bursts. I reckon that level of trauma is beyond what they can survive.
    They can certainly survive repeated handgun hits though, the harpoon in Alien didn't kill it.

    Makes sense. In the Alien novelization, it is mentioned it has regenerative abilities, but is ultimately defeated by blasting it into millions of smoldering pieces in the Narcissus' engines, so it seems like their primary weakness is direct contact with explosives or APHE weaponry, makes me wonder if the marines in Aliens were purposefully equipped this way because of the Company's foreknowledge of the organism.

    IIRC the APHE rounds are standard issue, the USCM really likes their dakka against human enemies such as rebels and terrorists. Just a coincidence it explodes Xenos pretty well too.
    Also considering Burke disarmed the marines before their engagement, I think the Company wanted as few Xenos killed as possible.
