Stocks Tied To China's SWIFT Alternative Are Soaring

As the Western world still obsesses with how Russia's expulsion from SWIFT will impact the Russian economy, commodity prices and the global funding markets, a quick note on how forward looking markets are reacting.

While we wait for US cash markets to open (as futures reverse a modest bounce and trade at session lows), China's micromanaged "market" is already up and running in what so far appears a boring session where the SHCOMP is flat, but where shares tied to China’s Cross-Border Inter-Bank Payments System (CIPS) are surging after Saturday's decision by Western nations to exclude some Russian lenders from the SWIFT messaging system. Why? Because of what Bloomberg notes is growing speculation that China's CIPS could become an alternative for those banks.

What is CIPS? It is a payment system which offers clearing and settlement services for its participants in cross-border yuan trades. Indeed, it is a Chinese version of SWIFT, and one which most Russian banks will likely soon be forced to adopt.

As a result, stocks such as Orient Group, and HyUnion Holding jump by the 10% daily limit..

... while Infosec Technologies and Forms Syntron Information surge by the 20% daily limit.

And since China will quickly brush off any threats of sanctions if it were to accept Russia banks into its orbit, it is now clear that instead of driving a wedge between Russia and the country that is true the biggest US challenger on the global scene, China, the West has succeeded into bringing the two powers even closer together while putting the fate of the world's reserve currency in jeopardy, as Dylan Grice explained earlier...
never seen weaponization of money on this scale before…you only get to play the card once. china will make it a priority to need no USD before going for Taiwan. it’s a turning point in monetary history: the end of USD hegemony & the acceleration towards a bipolar monetary order

We are dealt a set of cards and you play them the best you can.
And most people aren't dealt a "perfect hand".

In Euchre that's 4 of AKQT9 of the same suit plus both jacks of the same color. One of AKQT9 is showing (you have three) and you get to tell the dealer "pick it up, going alone" before revealing your hand because it's mathematically impossible to not win all five tricks unless you're an idiot.

Really funny when you told the dealer to pick up an Ace. Doubly funny (and rarer) when the dealer is on your side and a Jack is upturned.

I wanna believe you, but I doubt anything will happen yet. If anything, I have the impression that if the chinese people rose up and started butchering the chinese elites, the USA would send their military to put said rebellion down. Because the demorats are beholden to them, and we obviously can't have the corpos lose their investments and access to the chinese market.

No.
We wouldn't do that because the military DOES NOT LIKE CHINA.
Like at all.

What the military wants and what the president wants are two different kinds of animals. And if the prez says "Go put the rebellion down that threatens China and the interests of our lobbyists!", enough traitors will obey that order. We have had a general contacting China to warn them in case President Trump deemed actions against China necessary.

I think the US might give economic support if such a thing happened, but deploying troops on China's behalf? I strongly doubt that. Not only would it be wildly unpopular among their own support base, half the Democratic Party would probably dance on China's grave given the chance. And you'd probably push the Republicans into near open rebellion.

Even with the cold calculus of cost benefit, propping up China would not be worth it.

Ok, how do you plan to secure their nuclear arsenal during the collapse?

Do you try to invade to get them, buy off/support one faction, or simply try to destroy their warheads?

Because the collapse of a nuclear armed state is a different ballgame from some 3rd shithole having a coup because of famine.

You come in to bring aid and order after or as the regime is toppled and give favor to the establishment of reasonably stable, in check, and non hostile regime.
As for the nukes themselves?
If possible take them to insure no radical groups do the same or at least contribute to their security while you can.
