China ChiCom News Thread

Big news Movie Fans! There's a special cut of the amazing 1999 controversial anti-capitalist, anarchist film Fight Club with an exciting new ALTERNATE ENDING, described herein...

Bangkok Post said:
In the closing scenes of the original, Norton's character The Narrator, kills off his imaginary alter ego Tyler Durden -- played by Pitt -- and then watches multiple buildings explode, suggesting his character's plan to bring down modern civilisation is underway.

But the new version in China has a very different take.

The Narrator still proceeds with killing off Durden, but the exploding building scene is replaced with a black screen and a coda: "The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding".

It then adds that Tyler -- a figment of The Narrator's imagination -- was sent to a "lunatic asylum" for psychological treatment and was later discharged.

😕

:ROFLMAO:

Even better news, Peng Shuai made comments to a Singaporean news outlet whilst still in Shanghai and stated that the Weibo post she made allegeding sexual misconduct was a misunderstanding of a personal nature and she hasn't been under supervision and merely just living at her home for the past few weeks whilst incommunicado. 🤷‍♀️

Minor update on the story. The Tennis Organizations involved in the Australian Open will allow people to wear 'Peng Shuai' T-shirts such as ones asking "Where is Peng Shuai" at the event in spite of banning "all political" clothing including those kind of shirts earlier due to public outcry.

Chinese State Media meanwhile continues to 'Ree' about it.

Viral Video created by a Chinese Vlogger/TikToker which featured a woman who seemed to be in mental distress as she was found chained in a hut located in rural China.

BBC said:
Many have also discussed the abuse of women and their limited rights in China's rural areas, and questioned the circumstances under which the woman in Xuzhou in eastern Jiangsu province gave birth to her eight children.

They've asked how this escaped the notice of local authorities, given China's strict family planning restrictions.

In the video, the woman appears dazed and unable to comprehend questions from the vlogger, who asks her repeatedly if she feels cold. She's dressed in only a light layer of clothes despite the freezing winter temperatures.

The Chinese authorities issued two responses when rumors of Human Trafficking arose, the first seeming insufficient.

BBC said:
Authorities put out a statement on Friday dismissing any speculation about abduction. They identified the woman by her last name Yang, from Feng County Huankou Township.

They said she had married her husband, identified as Mr Dong in 1998, and had been diagnosed with a mental health illness. His family had told local authorities that Ms Yang often had violent outbursts.

But the response from officials further angered netizens who criticised authorities for not addressing the issue of her detainment, the use of the chains, and her overall welfare.

That prompted a second statement from authorities on Sunday, which contained more information about the family's history.
Officials said they were now investigating her husband.

"Dong is suspected of violating the law. The public security authorities have launched an investigation into it," the statement said, according to local media reports.

They added that Ms Yang was now in hospital for treatment and her children had been taken into state care. Officials said she had recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

The tail end of this video explains a massive amount of what China is doing right now. Though, I think that there are a lot of other motivations as well, which are not always mutually consistent. It points out that a lot of the big economic groups and famous or influential people that are being taken down or driven into bankruptcy have ties to rival factions within the CCP that are opposed to Xi. While what he's doing may drive the country into a great depression, it would also allow him to retain power, which is all he cares about.

I've watched interviews with the former heads of the national security advisory and the intelligence advisory. What struck me as odd was that their views on China were both so similar in such specific ways. They viewed China as an existential threat in a present and perpetual sense. Much as people 40 years ago did with the USSR. They even had many of the exact same talking points.

What's so striking about this is that it doesn't take much information to realize that China's economy is fucked.

FUCKED.

So the only reasonable explanation I can think of is that both of these high ranking officials, and many others, are being briefed by the same team out of the CIA or the State Department . One that has an agenda to view China as the biggest threat and make it look like the biggest threat.

Don't get me wrong, I think China is the biggest threat to the US as well, but on a 5-10 year time scale, not a 15-20 year one. China's economy and political system is strong only in a brittle way, it shows extreme strength right up until it utterly shatters.

What I think is going on is that this hypothetical briefing team probably agrees with me 95%, in private, but in order to get political action in real time they are ramping up fear mongering on the Hill. This leads to a situation where these high ranking officials make dumb-ass statements that are easily refuted by simple research.

Them saying China is a threat is always given in the most favorable ways, because it is all about poltiics.

Wonder if we'll get to sit back and just watch it collapse like we did the Soviet Union, or if they'll do as much damage as they can in their death throws.

Xi Jinping is a Mad Emperor whilst Mikhail Gorbachev's overseeing of the USSR's dissolution was practically majestic. I do think China's final collapse will be an utterly horrific affair by comparison, which may warrant US military intervention and perhaps even occupation.

I'm just hoping you Brits have the guts to go back into Hong Kong when the collapse comes. The people there would certainly prefer it.

My good man, you are talking to one of the most pro-empire people on this forum. I'd probably try to annex the entire Chinese coastline in such a scenario.

So long as the CCP can rule over so much as a pile of starving peasants in luxury, they won't care. They'll only get pissy in the event that they think they will be removed from power, not removed from affluence. What I see as most likely, is China's economy collapsing but the CCP remaining in firm control, then over a period of another 20-50 years their inability to keep up with the rest of the developed world creates unrest and eventual balkinization. You need to wait for the party to become weak, lazy. That's probably most going to happen when the population is too poor to have smart-phones and they don't have to deal with things like censorship as much,
