Armchair General's DonbAss Derailed Discussion Thread (Topics Include History, Traps, and the Ongoing Slavic Civil War plus much much more)

ChrisO Posted a Long Twitter Thread Discussing a half an hour long video featuring apparently unhappy Mobiks discussing the Russian Mobilization they've been drawn in. This covers members of the 15th Motorized Rifle Regiment, part of the elite 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Division and were largely mobilized on September 28th and have found themselves serving on the frontlines of Eastern Ukraine scant weeks later, on October 8th, near Lyman.

They spent their time on a training range in the Belgorod Oblast where they were provided a tent, but no training or any organized allocation of equipment, managed by hapless officers who didn't seem to have much understanding of what was going on either. They were issued weapons out of old storage boxes compromised by elements meaning their Kalashnikovs were often rusted, caked in mud and dirt, and often inoperable. Also ammunition was strewn about the area and issued from the back of trucks in a haphazard manner. They were fed breakfast and told training would occur day after day but it never did.

There was no care taken to servicemembers current levels of fitness, nor their previous military experience or specializations. Former Tankers ended up as Riflemen and vice versa. Officers were casually determining in short periods of time who would operate vehicles, be scouts or snipers, or mechanics etc. Also none of them were paid beyond being issued electronic bank cards in areas with no ATM's. Many were going into debt when they stopped issuing meals and they had to purchase their own food, along with most of their other equipment, often at inflated prices.

However, quite nobly, none of them apparently refused to serve.

According to the Wife of one of the soldiers in the unit, soonafter on October 12th, Ukrainians attacked them and inflicted considerable casualties upon their unit. Reportedly officers and the tank support fled, with the Russians having to withdrew/retreat fifteen kilometers whilst under Ukrainian artillery fire. The survivors reportedly are facing prosecution for refusing to return to the front and for abandoning their weapons and vehicles.

Other mobilization highlights.

Iran will Allegedly be Providing Freshly Mobilized Russian Forces Iranian made body armor and helmets.

No idea... The tweet says they are mowing grass with shovels but why?

Equipment Donated to Russian Mobiks in this video include useful winter coats and gloves and hats but also paintball masks and childrens tactical gloves.

Ironic thought of the day: Probably better conditions than those two weeks from mobilized to dead Russians got.
Old soviet tradition.During WW2 they genocided us till 1941 - but still, not worst that soviets.
And,after WW2 we were soviet colony, they murdered up to 200.000 people - but, this time soviets were treated worst!

Thus is getting WWI levels of "bad" for Russia ...

Yes,but this time germans would not send Lenin, becouse they are Moscov allies, and Wall Street would not send Trocky, becouse they want deal with Moscov, not destroy them.
So,they should keep going till ...well,dunno what happen.

Germans are no longer Moscow allies right now. If they were, then they wouldn't have agreed to make Ukraine an EU candidate state.

They know it would be a diplomatic faux pas to be its allies openly. But they want to return to the previous state ASAP. Hence their great efforts to not make any more moves that would sour the relationship long term than their allies will arm twist them into.

A return to the previous state would include (among other things) a Russian return to the February 23 lines, which Russia would certainly oppose.

Only if the West insists on it. Obviously Germany cares less about the lines in Ukraine, and more about the lines in sanction bills and the lines through which gas and oil flow.

The West will likely insist on it since AFAIK the West insists that Ukraine set the terms for peace talks. As for Germany resuming Nord Stream, I think that it's unlikely because pushing for it the first time around didn't stop Russia's aggression in Ukraine, so it's not a good tool to get Russia to behave better. Still, if Germany is really starved for gas, I suppose that it could go for it, but then what if Russia attempts another conquest of Ukraine sometime in the future?

Unlike the drone operators in Langley who were blowing up people who vaguely looked like they were committing terrorism at 30k feet since Barry 'No Torture!' Obama was in office, I think these operators are more likely to find Ukraine has a much longer reach.

I don't have a problem with the letter mentioned here per se, just so long as it's Ukraine that decides when and how peace should be negotiated:

As in, Ukraine should set the terms for peace talks, not Russia. And it should only do so when it is ready. If Ukraine thinks that continuing the war is more advantageous for it at this point in time, then it should be free to do so and given full Western support for this move of its.

...Yeah, I think it's safe to say that Russia has gone full on Nazi Germany. I wouldn't be surprised if they started setting up actual death camps for Ukrainians next.

Ironic, given that a key justification of the "special operation" was to "defeat the evil Neo-Nazis running Ukraine!", hah.
Well the propaganda from some about Putin is damn near exactly the same as what was said about Hitler.....

Yeah, Poland should have simply accepted Hitler's ultimatum:

After all, the 1940 Fall of France, the Katyn massacre, and the Holocaust were all completely reasonably foreseeable back then! /s

Putin and Hitler are exactly the same. Two Tin Pot dictators with a bizarre cult of personality and persecution complex. History does not repeat. But it sure does rhyme.

They are still soviet allies - but, they must pretend, that they oppose Moscov.
Idiots. If they manage to kick off american from Europe then yes, they could made next partition of Poland which is wet dream of german elitse - but, after that, they would go next to massgraves.

And,Hitler had good army.

P.S he is kgb who do not care how many of his slaves die,so,in theory, there could be hidden super soviet army waiting for RIGHT HOUR.
