You won't surrender if you'll get executed by the Ukrainians for trying to surrender. At least, a sane person probably wouldn't want to risk it. Better to risk dying in battle than to get guaranteed death as a result of you trying to desert.

Honestly, I don't see why they had to fire her so soon, the fake rape allegations worked, portraying the russians as subhuman monsters, while no mayor media outlet talked about them being revealed as fake.
