I should have expected that really
That 400 meter Mens Hurdle final was epic.

The 400 meter Hurdles World Record was established in 1992 by USA Hurdlist Kevin Young with a time of 46.78.

Karsten Warholm of Norway beat that record two months ago on July 1st with a time of 46.70.

Then in the final heat, Karsten Warholm shattered that record by over three quarters a second, winning the 400 meter Gold Medal with a time of 45.94, establishing a new world record. But that wasn't it.

America's Rai Benjamin came in second, as in within almost a half second of Karsten Warholm with a time of 46.17 meaning he too broke the previous world record. He also established an American record as well as obviously a personal best time.

And the person who came in third, Brazil's Alison dos Santos, came in faster then the 1992 record with a time of 46.72, also almost beating the World Record that was established by Karsten just two months prior as well.

What a crazy insane race that was.

Hell of an achievement, and thats despite the US team cheating.

well, sort of ;)

The US track team are wearing a particular type of shoe by Nike which incorporates an air pocket giving them some extra bounce and spring in their step. Shoes of this type have been banned in other sports like the big city marathons as giving the wearer an unfair advantage and those who wear them have been breaking records.

Warholm himself called them bullshit and likened them to a trampoline, and old favourite Usain Bolt also is less than impressed. Every Olympics seems to have it share of controversy and apparently this is it for this year

Alison dos Santos commented that, when he saw the chronometer marking 45.94 seconds at the end, he thought he was in the wrong competition.

China really dominated in Diving and Weightlifting. Hopefully MURICA can make up the deficit in Athletics.

Oh we will.
Water polo and basketball seem to be good spots to look. Javelin as well.

I think the weightlifting is questionable for at least one but yeah for sure.

We have water polo in the bag and Basketball

I would pause on Basketball being a sure thing. I just wacted them play Spain and the best you can say is that they won. 81 to 95 and many errors made it a tough game to watch. Hopefully they do better against Australia on Thursday. This current team is not close to the Dream team of the past.

As for Medals. I am not surprised China as normal did great in diving but also had some surprises in swimming. But while Track and Field is much contested the something like Gymnastics the US does tend to pick up a lot of medals there.

And of course couldn't overlook the other big news as of late in Athletics.

The United States had three runners in the final 400 meter Womens and Sydney McLaughlin and Dalilah Muhammad won gold and silver respectively with the Netherlands Femke Bol coming in third for the bronze. But in addition to that, Sydney McLaughlin also broke the world record for that race.

Sydney came from behind in the very end to surpass her teammate Dalilah, the 2016 Gold Medalist in this event) and smash her own previously established record of 51.90 with a time of 51.46. Dalilah Muhammad came in second with a time of 51.58 and even Femke Bol came close to breaking the record but did establish a new European record with a time of 52.03.

Lee Kiefer, a medical student out of Notre Dame, won the first American Gold medal in Individual Foil-Fencing, beating her Russian competitor 15-13. She finished 5th in 2012 and 10th in 2016 so quite the improvement in Olympic performance!

She's also a member of TEAM MILK!

30 year old David Taylor, who dominated the US Olympic Trials with a combined score of 33-2, won the 68kg freestyle wrestling gold medal over the Rio Gold Medalist, Iran's Hassan “The Greatest” Yazdanicharati 4-3.

He's now undefeated in his past 52 international matches.
